Current TV Reboot & Music Favs

PRESS PLAY

This album was released in June of 2018, so I know I’m definitely late to the party. But I am happy that I’m catching up now. Better late than never, right? I really love all the horns in these songs, it just makes it an instant BOP!

Favorite tracks include:

Hey Look Ma, I Made It

High Hopes

One Of The Drunks

Dancing’s Not A Crime

I was really into them back in high school when they first came out with their debut album “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out.” That’s when I became obsessed with this masterpiece (SEE: Video Below). But after that album I don’t remember much else. Don’t get me wrong, I can listen to that album today and I still totally vibe with it. That punk pop, dark eye liner, weirdness. I was all for it! LOL. But after high school, I feel like my taste in music started to shift and I just didn’t keep up with them. Also I don’t usually know the new music out these days, I’m an iPod playlist girl. But I’ve been playing the radio at work for my classes to help their creativity and I fell in love with “High Hopes” and then soon after “Hey Look Ma I Made It.” They have both been on repeat all week for me, and so I gave the full album a chance and Damn it’s good. It sounds like their old stuff, which I appreciate.

Watch Leading man Brendon Urie talk a little more about the album HERE.

Charmed– is a show I get super excited to watch lately! I’m actually really digging this reboot.

Summary: Mel and Maggie Vera suffer a shock when their mother dies suddenly, but before they have time to heal from their loss, another surprise shows up on their doorstep in the shape of an older sister — brilliant geneticist Macy — whom their mother never told them existed. The emotional stress takes its toll and the girls begin to exhibit impossible new abilities. An explanation comes from an unexpected place: the new chair of the women’s studies department. Harry Greenwood reveals that the three are powerful witches, and he is their white lighter, there to advise and guide them as they battle dark forces.- via Wikipedia

Maggie & Parker’s Love Connection

maxresdefault[3]
Maggie is the youngest of the Vera sisters and she is the witch with empathetic powers. With one touch she can hear and feel someone’s thoughts/feelings. She and Parker have such chemistry. When Parker came on, I was instantly invested in their connection. It’s even more interesting because Parker is actually half demon. Yes very similar to the Phoebe and Cole story line in the original Charmed. Maggie falls for Parker when she meets him by chance, and they vibe. But to Maggie’s surprise she soon finds out that Parker is her soon to be sorority sister’s boyfriend, so she puts the brakes on her feelings.

But of course throw in some more close moments and flirty eyes and a random kiss because she is trying to disguise her witchy business and keep him from seeing the fact that there’s a demon girl chained to their school’s home coming float, and Parker falls for her. The whole back and forth goes on and her friend eventually learns Maggie is the cause for her break up with Parker. Time passes and Maggie gets the go ahead to date Parker and the two are completely ADORABLE. But we soon find out that Parker is basically getting close to Maggie to further is father’s demonic plans. But it’s clear to the audience that Parker’s human side is often winning when it comes to Maggie. He truly cares for her and so when he is forced to drain her of her powers, he ends up stopping his family’s evil plan, but it’s a little too late to save the relationship and Maggie is left feeling heart broken and betrayed. She avoids Parker for a while, her anger and fear eating her up. But Parker eventually works his way back into her heart and they currently are back together and just had their first night together.

Here are some of my fav scenes-

Charmed airs Sundays @ 9 PM on The CW!

Roswell, New Mexico– I think this and Charmed are my new obsessions! These two reboots are KILLING THE GAME!
ros-pilotkeyart-1-1-1544646878[1]

Summary: After a decade away from home, Liz Ortecho returns to her native Roswell to care for her ailing father. When she arrives, she reconnects with her high school crush Max Evans, who is now a police officer. Their chemistry is electric, but Liz soon learns something shocking: Max and his siblings are aliens who have kept their abilities secret their entire lives. As they grow closer, Liz struggles to keep the truth from her best friend Maria, and her high school ex, Dr. Kyle Valenti, but concealing the siblings’ true identities is more important than ever, as a long-standing government conspiracy and the politics of fear and hatred threaten their lives.

Max & Liz’s Love Story

roswell-new-mexico.w700.h700[1]

So as mentioned in the summary, Liz and Max are introduced to us 10 years later. So they drop us in the middle of this intense history. We know they were lab partners and that they were good friends, but we don’t see those moment until later episodes when we get some fun flashbacks of the time the two almost kissed as kids, but never did. The whole show Max’s feelings for Liz are very evident. Evident to just about everyone. And he makes damn certain she knows too. In the very first episode a group of man stage a shoot out on the diner that Liz’s father owns, and she is shot in the chest. Bleeding out on the floor, Max uses his alien powers to heal her, causing her to come back to life and leaving a hand print on her. Because of this print, she soon finds out Max is an alien. She isn’t afraid and promises to keep his secret. The handprint creates a mirror of Max’s feelings linking them to Liz’s feelings. So when Liz wants to kiss him, he stops them, stating her feelings are not real, just an echo of his feelings for her. However, Liz isn’t easily convinced and wishes to kiss him once the hand print wears off. Liz soon finds out some disturbing evidence about her sister’s death and she begins to think Max had something to do with it. So she lies and tells Max she doesn’t have feelings for him, that it was just the effects of the hand print. Liz is not the same young, care free, girl beaming with positivity. She is an adult who is on a quest to find out the truth about her sister’s death. She soon finds out that Max has been hiding the truth from her for a decade, his sister Isabel (who is also an alien with mind controlling powers) suffered a black out and killed Liz’s sister Rosa, all those years ago. And Max and his brother covered it up in fear that they would all be exposed as aliens.

Max’s love for Liz and his psychic like connection to his sister have always been at odds. While he suffered the burden of this secret for years, nearly breaking and confessing to Liz. Isabel used her powers to convince Liz to leave town years ago, and so the show starts with Liz making her return to Roswell 10 years later. When the truth comes out, Liz is furious with Max, she goes as far as telling him she hates him.  Max is furious at his siblings for driving Liz out of town in the first place. And the tension between the two is evident. However even in anger, Liz still finds herself wanting to do good. She is a scientist and she is the one trying to mute Isabel’s powers so that she is no longer a danger to herself or to others. When her serum ends up doing more harm then good, Liz is relentless about helping her because she knows that if Isabel is ill, then so is Max. In the latest episode, Liz finally kisses Max after 10 years of anticipation and I am the happiest fan girl. Max’s speech is just so heartfelt and you can just see how much he loves her and how long he’s waited for her. Also they play a cover of the song “Iris” by The Goo Goo Dolls, so that makes the scene even more epic! I for sure thought they were going to drag that out til at least the season finale, but I’m so glad they didn’t, I mean Max waited long enough!

Here are some of my fav scenes-

These two slay me! The first episode, I was hooked by their connection. It’s just so beautiful. Oh my god, the love eyes they give each other. Liz there is no way, you can stay angry at a guy, who loves you THAT much. That kiss scene! What a scene! It was absolutely beautiful. The way that it was shot, the sun rays beaming, the way that Liz just kind of grabs him by surprise and her hold on him. It’s such a sweet moment. His heartfelt speech and her sassy defensiveness that he calls her out on, within the speech laced with unconditional love. The song! The cute banter between them at the end where they laugh about never waiting to kiss again. This scene had everything! All the feels. It was PERFECT! And then the scene after where he just kisses her freely. I CAN’T WAIT FOR MORE OF THAT! Oh and homegirl really needs to tell him she loves him back, he’s only said it like 12 times this season!

So um…universe where’s my alien boyfriend? 😉

Oh just an FYI this past week’s big KISS episode entitled, “Songs About Texas”  was directed by none other than the original show’s Liz Parker- Shiri Appleby.

Bake with Me: St. Patrick’s Day Edition

This past weekend, we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day at my Aunt’s house. So I decided to bake a bunch of yummy green inspired treats. Baking for every holiday is kind of my thing. I love finding fun recipes, buying all the ingredients, baking, and then creating festive trays for the occasion.

FIRST UP- Slutty Brownies (Click for recipe)

I called them Sassy Mint Brownies instead, lol! #KIDEARS

20190316_17473320190316_18112620190316_181754
20190316_183928

To display them, I put them on a green tray lined with white doilies. Then I added some butterscotch candies (gold coins) and the Andes mint chocolates (green theme candy). I also added a few shamrock toothpicks.

NEXT UP- Green Cupcakes

I didn’t really have a recipe for this. I just saw this picture online and drew inspiration from the image itself.

Green-Velvet-St-Patricks-Day-Cupcakes-7[1]

Not my photo

Here is my version, and what I used to create it…

I used Betty Crocker white boxed mix and Betty Crocker Cream Cheese frosting. I added a crazy amount of green food coloring to the batter to get that vibrant green color. I frosted them using a little pastry icing tool, added some green sugar sprinkles and topped it with either a green cherry (which I was super surprised to find!) or a butterscotch candy which I used to mirror a gold coin, (I couldn’t find any gold chocolate coins).

LAST UP- Lucky Charm Treats (Click for recipe)

20190316_235922

I just added some green food coloring to make them even more festive!

20190317_002431
20190317_144113

To display these, I placed them on a white oval tray lined with doilies, and added some spear mint gumdrop candy to add some décor to it.

Here’s my little set up…(dinner cooked by both my Mom and my Aunt…mom made Sheppard’s pie too, but I didn’t get a pic.)

I threw together a bottle of sangria and some green fruit (pear, grapes, apple). Apple wine on the side in case someone just wanted a glass of wine, or wanted to add more into the sangria. And some festive napkins, plates, and straws. A drink is so much better with a little umbrella or a cute straw! It was so good, I had quite a few glasses and was feeling a nice buzz. #YesImOfAge

And you know I had to dress for the occasion with some fun festive accessories, and that morning I had some tea in my holiday themed mug…

The day was really fun, and everything was really delicious! However, I will say for the mint brownies, if you aren’t a fan of mint, than you may not like them. I like mint, so I LOVED them! I love celebrating my heritage and getting to do so with great food, and good company. They had an early birthday cake for me too, and I even got some early birthday gifts. It was a really sweet surprise and a great time!

Happy “Belated” St. Patrick’s Day!

My 2019 Projects Update

List of Projects

(I want to finish this year)

Move -MLW Short Story Series

MOVE poster

This series first premiered on MLW June of 2017. And there are currently 13 Chapters posted. But I haven’t updated since January of 2018. So it’s been quite a while. LONGEST HIATUS EVER! I just recently gathered my notes on this project, and re-read all the chapters. I am working on Chapter 14 and Liam and Aria’s loves story will continue soon, I PROMISE! This is my priority project!

Start from the beginning- Read Chapter 1- HERE

Summary: Liam Whitmore is a wealthy business executive who goes through the motions of working in his corporate world day after lousy day, making deals and kicking ass at it. However he often feels uninspired, and unable to do what he really loves. Until one day he meets a younger woman named Aria Lenz, struggling to become a dancer. Her simplistic yet driven nature strikes up a spark of inspiration in him, and he makes it his mission to get to know her. Little does he know, it’ll be the hardest “transaction” he’s ever had to make. They’re worlds apart- will he finally get through to her, or will his fire fizzle?

Crazy Stalker Love– MLW Short Story Series- COMING SOON!

This was a story I thought of during the fall of 2018 and it is partially written and saved on my computer but needs some serious love. I did announce it on the blog, that this was coming. I think it will be featured on MLW after “Move” wraps. It needs to be finished and put into Chapters.

Summary: Henley Hendrix is a badass who doesn’t let anyone tell her what to do. She has always had an intense and complicated history with her ex boyfriend Hunter Stone. Some may even go as far to say, that his love for her has always exceeded any normal standard. They have a painful past that she just can’t seem to get over, but she also can’t seem to let him go either. While selfishly hanging onto their intimacy, in the mist of her on again/off again relationship with Hunter, Henley starts seeing a new, dark, mysterious Mr. Perfect. But everything isn’t always as it seems to be. *There are a bunch of other interesting characters that get thrown along for the ride too.

NaNoWriMo Project loosely Titled “Afire Love”

1_9OvMU-j-y_KnJvbn9r6kYA[1]

Summary: Sadie Sullivan has always been a romantic at heart. But she always plays it safe. Err on the side of caution, is practically her motto. After all, you can’t fail, if you don’t take any risks right? But what happens when a handsome acquaintance challenges her to face her biggest fear of all…falling in love?

On my instagram, I gave daily NaNo updates, and I shared some Sneak Peeks of my book on there throughout the month of November 2018. I also gave a hint that my two characters face a similar struggle these two characters faced in General Hospital.

c0298e51fd987115e080ea527c2002a2--julie-marie-berman-emmy-nominees[1]

Dante & Lulu (GH) They faced quite a number of struggles so which one do you think I am referring to?

This book needs to be finished, edited ALOT, and formatted. But I past my 50,000 NaNo word count! So that’s a plus!

Television Pilot

I have been writing scenes for this show since I was in high school, which for a time frame, has been over a decade. I have notebooks, and loose papers, and saved documents all over the place. I started to work on the pilot episode back when I said I would, but the world I’ve created in my mind has become so big, that I can literllay see seasons of stories unfolding. So to narrow down the lives of these characters to the very beginning, has just proven to be quite hard. Last Update.

I will not give away much on this. This is a big one. But I will give you a sneak peek of a mock poster I made with my #dreamcast. I totally know all these pictures are old. This is just who I imagine my characters to look like. 🙂 [Sorry the title is a secret for now! Have to keep some secrets!]

fake-promo-poster-censor.jpg

Tori Kelly, Bruno Mars, Kris Allen, Demi Lovato, Katelyn Pippy, Joshua Jackson

Special Self Publishing Project– not going to give away the title but let’s just say I’ve been writing it for the past 6 years and probably long before that too. I will just give you a little tiny hint-  Faceless Man.

love+letters[1]

As you can see I have quite a few projects on my mind. They tangle up and I just don’t know where to start. And then I get another new idea and start writing that, and then I stop and get distracted and thrown off track of writing anything all together. It’s definitely overwhelming. But my goal is to finish all of these projects by the end of this year. I need to learn to finish what I start. I need to get my stories out of my mind and onto paper and into the world. It’s the only way these characters are going to leave me alone. 😉

Wish me luck and a bit of magic!

To my fellow writers out there,

how do you start what you finish/deal with balancing multiple projects?

Makeup Starter Kit Gift Idea [Drugstore]

I came up with this gift idea for my mom for Christmas. Of course it can be used for any occasion. And I liked it so much, that I thought I should share.

My mom was always asking me to borrow little things here and there. But our skin tones are different and what works me doesn’t always work for her. She didn’t have many of the basics in her kit and she would always say one of these days she wanted to get herself some new products and that she needed my help to pick things out. But I knew she would never go and buy herself all this, so I took it upon myself to put this gift together for her.

When doing this it was a bit difficult to judge the skin tones, so I just tried my best. I looked at her old makeup that I knew she was using at that time, to get an idea of the shade. I also kept in line with the brands I know she likes to use.

When it comes to colors I went with Dark Brown for eyeliner and Brown/Black for mascara, because she doesn’t like full black. So you can customize to the person’s preference. I know she doesn’t usually do lipstick or eyeshadow so in order to nudge easily toward the transition, I kept the colors natural/neutral in the Beige/Brown/Mauve family. Nothing too bold. A tinted lip balm in always a safe bet too.

Last but not least- presentation. It was Christmas so I just wrapped each item in wrapping paper, so it was fun for her to open all the different items one by one. You could easily have put everything in the makeup bag and then into a nice gift bag. Or you could set it all up into a nice basket. The choice is yours. Get Creative!

Now let’s chat pricing. I tried to grab some things that were on sale. At the time, I remember there were some makeup brands on sale. But some things I knew I had to pay full price for. The whole kit probably cost around $80. And to me that is a lot for drugstore makeup. But I use drugstore makeup and for the most part, I don’t mind the quality. It does the job for my everyday look. If I would have went to Sephora and tried to get that much for $80 that would have been impossible. So I thought it worked out rather well. My mom was happy. 🙂

Each makeup starter kit can be color customized to whoever you are giving the gift to.

Items Included (Left to Right):

20181214_101119.jpg

These are just all the basic things, I feel like a woman can use to create simple, clean, beautiful everyday looks. But quick DISCLAIMER- I don’t believe we NEED to wear makeup. I believe in choosing when and where and why you want to wear it. I love to play around with makeup and have fun with it. I love knowing that I can cover up my dark circles, lol. And I also love throwing on some face mist, lip balm, and moisturizer and giving my face a break too. It’s all about how you feel. I am in NO way saying, woman NEED makeup. You do you boo! 🙂

What would you include in your starter kit?

Happy 60th Barbie!

Yesterday on Saturday, March 9th, Barbie celebrated her 60th Birthday/Anniversary. I am a total Barbie fan. In fact I’ve done some posts about Barbie in the past that will give you a better idea of how I feel about our girl Barbs. 😉

Barbie’s Evolution turns into a Revolution [2014]

Barbie Evolves…Mattel bringing its A game [2016]

In order to celebrate I thought I’d share a few pics of me playing with Barbies as a kid/pre-teen and share with you some of my favorite Barbies that were released while I was growing up. Yes, I played with Barbie until I was like 11 or so. #NoShame I still get to play every now and again, with my little cousins or my god daughter. It brings me back and I love it! 😉

Sit in Style….Guys, remember bubble furniture?

These are just some I remember having as a kid. I’m sure there are tons of others that I loved.

I buy Barbies for my god daughter who is now old enough to play with them. And I even buy them for my niece too, even though she’s still a little bit too young. I just want them  to know the journey Barbie has taken and how far she’s come. Yes I’ve bought them some curvy dolls. In fact, I never got to purchase one for my collection, so as I picked up one for my niece, I figured why the hell not? I should own a curvy Barbie. The little girl in me, still supports her love of Barbie dolls. I chose this curvy Fashionista, because she reminded me of myself a bit. She has hips and thighs! And her outfit was funky and floral like the hippie side of me.

^ My photos ^

Oh and FYI Barbie has a VLOG channel on YouTube and it is AMAZING!  I’m going to be 28 later this month and I can’t believe how her words can hit home even at my age. It’s really great to see her speaking on important issues young girls and women still face today. I loved the last two vlogs she posted, such amazing positive messages for the youth of the world to absorb. Barbie teaches girls that they can do anything and to stick up for themselves. In this world we need positive role models for our girls! Barbie wasn’t always considered a good/smart/healthy role model. Even some youth today, consider her “stupid.” But I loved her, and with all the positive changes being made today to her brand, I love her even more. I can only hope that I will one day, have my own daughter and pass down my Barbie collection to her and teach her all that Barbie has taught me.

And just for some fun, I thought I’d share their Birthday Barbie video with you too!

For more on the history of Barbie visit the Barbie website!

Happy Birthday Barbie!

Thanks for the amazing memories, and for the inspiration!

You were my childhood.

International Women’s Day- March 8th

Hi friends!

In case you haven’t noticed I changed my posting schedule from Mondays & Thursdays to just simply twice a week. It’s just getting so hard sticking to specific days, but I do usually try to get up two posts within the week, regardless of the days I do so. But this week was a bust, but I finally have some time to sit down today and so I figured you know what, I’ll give you the two posts today. Why not?

I had wanted to post this on Friday in honor of the special day, but time got away from me this week. However, I could not let it go unrecognized on this platform.

IWD purple

This past Friday I rocked my purple in honor of #InternationalWomensDay. Purple signifies justice and dignity and is the color of IWD. I do work in a school setting and I co-teach an activity, where we try to form lessons and projects around inspiring young girls (& boys) to help each other go after their dreams and make positive change around them. In order to celebrate we watched “Brave” which is a great movie about a young female lead character who fights to create her own fate even though she is a princess and her parents say she needs to marry a man for a bright future. She challenges that and creates change. Add in some snacks and a bit of IWD facts and it was a ladies party! Keep fighting the fight ladies, do your thang! Thank you to all the powerful, women in my life who inspire me always, and those who have come before us and paved the way. Feminism is not a new term, it’s not a fad, and it is not anti men. It’s just believing in equality between men and women. And it’s a concept that’s been around for years. We as women need to carry it along generation, through generation. “Strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.” Happy “Belated” International Women’s Day! ✌💪🥂💜

International Women’s Day (March 8th) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level. But one thing is for sure, International Women’s Day has been occurring for well over a century – and continues to grow from strength to strength. – official IWD site

Now, Merida must discover the true meaning of courage and undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.- Via Google/Wiki

Trailer:

I do think this film was a great story to show on such a day, and it was our little way of celebrating. It held such a strong message, that we as women have the power to pave our own way and that it’s okay to question the hierarchy/history. There are so many other things you can do to celebrate and not just on the one day. I know we have our projects, we are working towards- to create and donate care packages to local female shelters. It is something we are just working and building toward for future lessons. After all, IWD includes the idea to think Globally, act locally. Make the change wherever you are. It all matters!
