Ladies Lounge Party Planning

I celebrated my birthday in March (Fashion Stylings coming soon!) I went to dinner with a few close friends and then had them come back to the “Ladies Lounge” for dessert. I love to create my own vibes. And I think lounges are super cool and laid back and just the perfect place to hang out, chat with your girls and have a few snacks and drinks.¬†

The Entry Way

20190330_230508

The entry way is the first impression guests see. For the Ladies Lounge I chose to set the scene with an information board filled with inspirational and informative flyers about “local” events. A bowl of candies, candles, signs, and a disco ball. I also included a bathroom sign on the door. ūüėȬ†

The Bathroom

20190330_230558

Every time I have gone out to a nice place, the bathrooms always have cute little decor pieces or inspirational quotes on the wall. This one pictured here, is one of my favs. I also laid out some festive guest napkins by the sink.

The Coffee/Tea Station

Of course I didn’t actually make my guests pay for their drinks and desserts! Lol. It was just for show.

The Happy Hour Bar Station

20190330_231907

In honor of my fav girl from FRIENDS, this is a Racheltini…(basically just pink lemonade with a cherry on a fancy pearled toothpick lol)

The Dessert/Snacks (we went out to dinner before hand, so I kept it simple with a few sweet and savory snacks)

20190330_231352

I added a lace tablecloth, a color changing candle, and a mason chair filled with fresh flowers. I also set the treats on some fancier dishes.

Setting the vibe/Lounge area

20190330_230941

I had my crystal salt rock lamp on, and my essential oil diffuser on as well. I like to use a blend of Lavender & Eucalyptus

20190330_230949

I replaced the lamp on the left’s bulb with a yellow bulb to create a fun lighting vibe. Added a throw and some extra pillows to the couch for a cozier look. Some Lanterns and d√©cor fans to add some lounge feels.¬†

20190330_231044

20190330_231133

I put on the spa music channel to set the vibe along with more candles a lantern and some drapery. I used my fuzzy chair with another throw to the mix for extra comfy seating.

20190330_231254

I transformed my living room desk into a little coffee table. I placed two LARGE coffee cups on the funky table cloth. Just like the ones on the show. I also added a small vase of flowers and a real candle. For a few more FRIENDS related Easter eggs I added a fake version of “Be Your Own Wind Keeper” and a Trivia book.¬†

20190330_231220

I added another lantern above, a few balloons around, another chair with a drapery and extra pillow, and strung some sunflower lights by my windows, which I closed to keep the light vibe low.

International Women’s Day- March 8th

Hi friends!

In case you haven’t noticed I changed my posting schedule from Mondays & Thursdays to just simply twice a week. It’s just getting so hard sticking to specific days, but I do usually try to get up two posts within the week, regardless of the days I do so. But this week was a bust, but I finally have some time to sit down today and so I figured you know what, I’ll give you the two posts today. Why not?¬†

I had wanted to post this on Friday in honor of the special day, but time got away from me this week. However, I could not let it go unrecognized on this platform.

IWD purple

This past Friday I rocked my purple in honor of #InternationalWomensDay. Purple signifies justice and dignity and is the color of IWD. I do work in a school setting and I co-teach an activity, where we try to form lessons and projects around inspiring young girls (& boys) to help each other go after their dreams and make positive change around them. In order to celebrate we watched “Brave” which is a great movie about a young female lead character who fights to create her own fate even though she is a princess and her parents say she needs to marry a man for a bright future. She challenges that and creates change. Add in some snacks and a bit of IWD facts and it was a ladies party! Keep fighting the fight ladies, do your thang! Thank you to all the powerful, women in my life who inspire me always, and those who have come before us and paved the way. Feminism is not a new term, it’s not a fad, and it is not anti men. It’s just believing in equality between men and women. And it’s a concept that’s been around for years. We as women need to carry it along generation, through generation. “Strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.” Happy “Belated” International Women’s Day! ‚úĆūüí™ūü•āūüíú

International Women’s Day (March 8th) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level. But one thing is for sure, International Women’s Day has been occurring for well over a century – and continues to grow from strength to strength. – official IWD site

Merida (Kelly Macdonald), the impetuous but courageous daughter of Scottish King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson), is a skilled archer who wants to carve out her own path in life. Her defiance of an age-old tradition angers the Highland lords and leads to chaos in the kingdom. Merida seeks help from an eccentric witch (Julie Walters), who grants her an ill-fated wish. Now, Merida must discover the true meaning of courage and undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.- Via Google/Wiki

Trailer:

I do think this film was a great story to show on such a day, and it was our little way of celebrating. It held such a strong message, that we as women have the power to pave our own way and that it’s okay to question the hierarchy/history. There are so many other things you can do to celebrate and not just on the one day. I know we have our projects, we are working towards- to create and donate care packages to local female shelters. It is something we are just working and building toward for future lessons. After all, IWD includes the idea to think Globally, act locally. Make the change wherever you are. It all matters! For My Future Daughter

One day, I hope to be a mom, and I thought about what I would want to say to my own daughter. The advice I would give her. Here it is… ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†

                                                                                                                              March 19, 2018

Dear Sweet Girl,

I know life isn’t always going to be easy for you. I know jobs will be hard to find and boys will break your heart. And people you are close to will disappoint you at times. Myself included, sadly. No one is perfect.

If you are anything like me, I know insecurity will find you and you will have to fight to see the silver lining in every bad day. I know you will question your faith in times of pain and grief. And wonder what your true purpose is.

I know you may fight your anxiety everyday like I do and I also know that you can and you will win.

My hope is that you never have to deal with any of these hardships. That you are forever cast with a smile on your face. But living in this world, I know that is unfortunately an unrealistic notion. There will be bad days. There will be sad days.

I know that you will be so loved by so many, that you will feel like you have to always be good and “perfect.” To always say/do the right thing. Your self awareness and self consciousness will be both a weakness and a strength for you. But your heart is so big.

Just breathe my girl and you will get through it all-one foot at a time. One day at a time. Because you are a force to be reckoned with. You are your own heroine. The star of your own sold out show. You can be anything you want to be.

Never let anyone tell you different or try to dull the sparkle that surrounds your very soul. And please… never stop dreaming.

                                                                                                                               Love You Always,

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬† Mom ‚̧ ¬†

Supergirl

So my brother is the super hero fan of the family and quite honestly I’ve never really cared for the movies or anything. However, I did grow up around Power Rangers and Ninja Turtles. I was the Pink Ranger for Halloween as a kid. So I guess you can say I didn’t hate it! ūüėČ There was also my recent obsession with The Amazing Spider-Man- the one with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.¬†I freaking love those movies. Add some Romance and I’m all in. Spoiler Alert… BUT WHY DOES SHE DIE????

def3508cbca223ac216ca3b8b0dd3c53[1]

Any who, my brother had been telling me to watch the CW’s¬†Supergirl for the longest time. He was all like¬†“I think you’ll like it.” and I¬†just kept saying no. Until one day I was looking for a new Netflix binger and low and behold¬†I got hooked into the world of superheroes.

I’m a feminist, and I believe in women’s equality and female empowerment. Girl power all the way, my friend. And this show embodies just that.

CBS premiered Season 1 in October of 2015. The summary reads as follows-

At 12 years old, Kara Zor-El escapes doom on planet Krypton to find protection on Earth with the Danvers family, where she grows up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learns to hide the extraordinary powers she shares with her cousin, Superman. Now an adult living in National City and working for media mogul Cat Grant, Kara finds her days of keeping her abilities a secret are over when super-secret agency head Hank Henshaw enlists her to help protect the city’s citizens from threats. Finally coming into her own, Kara must juggle her new responsibilities with her very human relationships. (Via Wikipedia)

I watched the full first season on Netflix and am dying to watch the second season. Supergirl is currently airing¬†it’s second season on The CW.¬† It is said to be released on Netflix- Tuesday,¬†May 30th! So I don’t have to wait long! I’ve peeked ahead on YouTube and she has the cutest love interest! I cannot wait to watch the full story unfold!!!!¬†Supergirl¬†was also picked up for a third season!

Oh did I mention that Supergirl is totally the sweetest girl in the world, and the strongest, most badass all in one! Not only can she fly, but¬†she has superhuman strength, speed, and stamina;¬†super breath; x-ray vision; telescopic and microscopic vision; freeze breath; heat vision; and super hearing.¬†She¬†is stronger than an ox, and can repel bullets. She’s the girl of steal. It’s funny how they always pull Superman in on iChat. I hope we actually get to see him, every time they say he’s there, you never fully see him. She’s determined to do things alone, and be her own super heroine, which I respect. But I mean how cool would it be to see a cousin duo tag team. Red, Blue, and Yellow baby. #S

Can we also just give a shot out to the crazy good cast they have. I mean you’ve got quite a few Glee cast members like Melissa Benoist as Kara/Supergirl¬†, Jenna Dewan Tatum from Step Up!, Calista Flockhart best known as¬†“Ally McBeal”,¬†and my girl Chyler Leigh “Lexie Grey” from Grey’s Anatomy. So damn good!

NECZUVENlM32GI_3_b[1]

Left to Right: Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, and Calista Flockhart.

lucy-lane[1]

Jenna Dewan Tatum

Oh and Winn (played by Jeremey Jordan) is my favorite, what a freaking cutie!

Although I get so annoyed by the fact that Kara can put a pair of glasses on and wear her hair up and suddenly no one can tell she looks just like Supergirl!

b06ba371b0423e5c3[1]

I guess they have to suspend reality, so I can let that slide. ūüėČ The rest of the show is¬†kickass.¬†I really love how they developed Kara’s character. She¬†has got this dorky, goofy, out of place, off kilter vibe. She’s an alien on planet Earth,¬†just trying to learn to be human. I think¬†it’s¬†safe to say that she does a good job at trying to blend in, but sometimes her awkwardness gets in the way, and quite honestly I may not an alien, but I think we can all be awkward as hell sometimes! She handles it effortlessly, with her sweetness and then she can instantly¬†flip her switch and be Supergirl saving the world¬†from bad guys and girls. Yes that’s right she battles some bad ass she villains and even though I am all for good winning over evil, it’s super cool to see female villains and superheroes fight it out, rather than just the typical male heroes. Silver Banshee (played by Italia Ricci) was dope!

Supergirl doesn’t kill, but she’s just as effective. And of course she has many admirers along the way which just puts the cherry on top for me. #Romance

They even did a little cross over episode with The CW’s The Flash, and I was a little in love with The Flash/Barry Allen – (played by Grant Gustin-also starred on Glee.) I hear they recently did another one this season, so¬†OMG¬†um, now I’m probably going to have to get into The Flash too.

supergirl-and-the-flash_0[1]

So there you have it, Supergirl has it all; Confidence, Encourages Female Centric Storylines, Strength, Humor, Action¬†and Romance. I’m all in!

Supergirl airs Monday nights @ 8PM on The CW

Catch up on Season 1 on Netflix!

To be a woman is amazing.

463px-We_Can_Do_It! images[2] (2) original[1]

In honor of yesterday being International Women’s Day…I wanted to give a little inspirational shout out to all the amazing and badass women out there…

Dear my fellow Women,

You are smart. You are beautiful. You are creative souls with kind hearts. You are daughters, sisters, mothers, aunts, grandmothers, godmothers, friends, neighbors. You are powerful and full of wonder. You have the ability to bear children and you are instilled with maternal instinct. You feel and you express those feelings. You are a warrior. You are more than what you look like, more than what society tells you you are, more than  any gratification a compliment from a man may give you. You are magic, you are superb. You are brilliant and interesting. You have stories that need to be told. Stories that hold lessons that are untouchable if not told by you and only you. Stories that hold true love and heart. Stories about real women, walking through life, finding themselves. Stories that show scars and ways of picking yourself up, overpowering doubt and moving on. You can be everything and anything you want to be.

So often our brilliance is stifled or is misunderstood or¬†our voices go unheard.¬† Society shapes the ways we get treated and then tries to correct it, only to have media strike again. Walk this way, talk this way, act this way, look this way, cook, clean, be a stay at home mom. For once I just want to see the words…Think. For. Yourself. – Be. Yourself. In any shape or form that is. Own it. Be the woman you always wanted be, and maybe if you look in the mirror hard enough into your soul, you’ll realize she’s been in¬†there all along. Give her permission to shine.

Women are the glue that hold this world together. That hold families together. The ones who¬†create new life. The ones who nurture and care. In my opinion women are BADASS. All women. To be a woman is amazing. It’s not easy, it’s¬†complicated, difficult, at times unmanageable.¬†¬†Because somehow we’ve been rendered¬† to have all the answers; all the solutions to all the¬†problems.¬†But we don’t and we never will, but it is amazing. We are women and we¬†are amazing. Tell yourself that and believe¬†it.

Happy Women’s Day!

Rosie the Riveter

I definitely think of myself as a feminist.¬†It isn’t a dirty word.¬†I believe in women’s dating-fails-feminismempowerment. I believe a woman has the right to speak her mind and stand up for what she believes in, without a man putting her down, or questioning her. I believe women can run empires,¬†build bridges, race¬†cars, play sports. I believe women are more than¬†the clothes they wear, or the whether or not they choose to wear makeup. I believe women are more¬†than their bodies, more than what meets the eye.

It’s 2014, women can be house wives, and care takers, just as much as they can be working moms, run for office or¬† serve in wars. To each her own, is how it should be. And yet there is still an heir of sexism out there. The age old tale that a woman’s place is in the kitchen or at home with the kids is¬†a¬†load of crap. And any man who actually thinks that, should be ashamed and clearly doesn’t value the women in his life,¬†ie: his own mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, etc. If you can disrespect one woman’s values, you disrespect us all.

463px-We_Can_Do_It!

Rosie the Riveter…

A “cultural icon of the United States, representing the American women who worked in factories during World War II, many of whom produced munitions and war supplies. These women sometimes took entirely new jobs replacing the male workers who were in the military. “Rosie the Riveter” is commonly used as a symbol of feminism and women’s economic power,” (Wikipedia).

I’ve always been intrigued by this iconic poster, but I never fully knew what it stood for. So I thought I’d check in on it, and rally in it’s true support of feminism. We are girls, young ladies, young women. We are strong. Our bodies¬†are designed to endure¬†things that the male species couldn’t even comprehend; we give birth to new¬†life. We are fighters. We are women. And we will be heard.

Why Do We “Duckface?”

Personally I’m more of a smile selfie girl…imagesHHJW3GGF

I like to show off the pearly whites

But I will admit within a “selfie session”…because you know you can’t just take 1.

[#werk those angles girl…change location!]

I probably do throw in a duck face for good measure. But I rarely actually end up posting the infamous pose, it just doesn’t suit me. And in reality does it really suit anyone?

images[9]

So that leads to the true question here…

Why do we “duckface”?

¬†I mean really… is this attractive to you?

550060-23b5e66e3351086a5edec40fc3539a75[1]

Do we duck face because…

A.) We continuously smell something bad at the exact moment we are snapping our selfies.

imagesI0WIEKKY

[Girl I like your lip color tho.]

Is it because…

B.) We want to appear more quirky.

images[8]

OR is it because…

C.) We think that by doing a duckface it makes our lips more desirable…

[please lord don’t let it be C…..Girl you’re lips are fine the way they are!]

The truth is…I have no freakin’ clue….why we duck face.

None of the above make it worth¬†it for me, so with that being said, I think I’ll stick to my smiles thank you very much!

images[7]

Give it a try ladies!
