#BLOGTOBER Day 27- Creating this year’s Pumpkin Character

So I know that almost everyone in the world has carved or decorated a pumpkin. But just in case you haven’t, I got you covered. 😉

Every year, I carve/design a pumpkin character. See my other character creations in BLOGTOBER Day 9 !

As always I have my Fall Bucket List, and I have been slowly making my way through it. And so I’ve been wanting to find time to carve my pumpkin and last night I made sure to do just that.

BEFORE & AFTER

The Making Of: Meeting Aquafina

STEP ONE: Set your Pumpkin out on a steady working area. You may want to lay out a garbage bag, because things are going to get messy! And Gather all your decorative pieces…(hence the mess in the background all over my table!)

STEP TWO:  Cut off the top of the pumpkin; I drew a circle around the stem and carved it out with a regular kitchen knife. I didn’t have any fancy pumpkin carving knives, but a regular knife worked just fine.

STEP THREE: The fun part! Get Messy and remove all the guts and the seeds!

STEP FOUR: Go in with a spoon to scrap and remove any excess pumpkin guts.

RESESARCH DESIGN INSPIRATION: I wanted to do a mermaid character, so I just needed an image to use as a reference when I drew it.

STEP FIVE: Free hand the design onto the pumpkin, with a pen.

I messed up the nose a bit… 😦

STEP SIX: Carve out the facial features you want to. I chose to carve out some and outline others. Just to show a little light in when I put the candle in. Be sure to clear out any extra pumpkin that may fall through inside again.

STEP SEVEN: MERMAID MAKEUP. Here are some supplies I used to create my mermaid’s makeup. I basically used the blue pen to draw on the face. Then I mixed the blue crayon and the green glitter to create the glittery eye shadow, eye liner, and lipstick, using the blue paint brush to apply it. I used the black crayon for the eyelashes.

STEP EIGHT: CREATE THE LOOK. Then for the design portion I added two battery operated, no flame tea lights into my pumpkin. And added my mermaid touches (believe it or not, I had all of these things)- a Hawaiian lei, blue hair extensions (I wrapped them around the stem to create a bun style and used bobby bins to pin them in place), my DIY starfish hair pin, and a plastic fork because you know that’s how mermaids comb their hair. #THELITTLEMERMAID

STEP NINE: Give her a name! MEET Aquafina! She’s a sassy mermaid.

20181027_002458

TIP: Sometimes after cutting the stem, it ends up becoming too small and then falling into the pumpkin. My mom suggested adding a tooth pick on either side of the cover to keep it from falling in. You can’t tell here, because I strategically placed the Lei, but it worked like a charm. And it makes it easy to lift my pumpkin cover to turn the candles on and off.

STEP TEN: Shut the lights off, pop in a Halloween movie, grab a snack and a glass of wine (or if your underage some cider, Lol) and ENJOY!

This was a bit time consuming, but I love all this fall themed stuff.

When all was said and done, I really liked the way she came out.

She looks so cute and sassy!

Aqua- Mermaid Queen

The 35th Annual Mermaid Parade was hosted this past

Saturday, on June 17th in Coney Island.

This was my third year attending and I dressed up a bit so I thought I’d share my look with you.

IMG_20170617_184456

This year I went with a Aquamarine/Teal/Blue theme. All pieces were just to reflect oceanic colors. I added some shell accessories-a bracelet and a necklace. The sweater I’m wearing just seemed perfect because it was this net type material, like you see in the ocean when fish life get caught up in random netting and seaweed. I randomly found this sea shell bra in dollar tree a few days before and I just thought why the hell not. I was a little reserved wearing it at first and I definitely got some looks on the train going there, but I just owned it. It’s not every day you get to dress like one of the sea’s most beautiful mystical creatures. Life is too short to stay in a box.

I call her- Aqua– The Mermaid Queen 😉

Me, my mom, and my aunt! When we left it was pouring and we thought to ourselves are we crazy… but we kept going and by the time we got there, it was clearing up. There was a slight overcast, and a mini drizzle, but it wasn’t bad at all. In fact I preferred it because the crowd wasn’t as big and the weather wasn’t disgustingly hot. We got to enjoy and it ended up getting nicer and we had a great day!

While I was there I got to check another item off my summer bucket list- to visit the Coney Art Walls.

Had to rock my mint green vans, cuz…Rain.

And last but not least the food…I indulged and I have no shame. Because it’s not often I get to hangout on the board walk and eat that type of food.  It just screams summer! So I had my usual Coney Island staples – a corndog and a shish-ka-bob. And then I’ve been dying to try fried chicken and waffles. If you know me- you know- I LOVE Chicken…any kind of chicken, and I LOVE waffles. So there was a food truck there and…um….it’s all that I imagined it would be.

Sorry I know that corn dog looks kinda gross, but it was delicious! Haha #SorryNotSorry

You can read my more in-depth experience from THE BLOG I posted when I attended 2 years ago. I describe in detail how I put together my outfit. A lot of the things I did this year were the same. I did the scrunchy hairstyle with a blue extension, blue hair chalk and a whole lot of product. I also used a similar makeup technique, where I basically just used stick on jewels, and blues to highlight my face and make it mermaid-y plus glitter, on glitter, on glitter. I even used my starfish DIY hair clip again too! This year I liked my outfit a little better, but the feelings of hope, creativity, and acceptance that radiant from the parade are still in my heart. It’s such a weird experience, but I think it’s pretty cool.

Next year I hope to gather more of a crew to go, and I think I may have to really plan a badass mermaid outfit. I’m going to make everyone dress up right along with me! It’s so much more fun, when you join in on the weirdness.  😀

Mini Graphic T-shirt Haul

I’ve mentioned how my love for television is a force to be reckoned with. Well there’s another obsession I have. I love collecting graphic t-shirts. Shirts that say silly things, or have fun charcters on them. Now when you put those two interests together, I lend a new level to the term tv fangirl.

Over the past few weeks or so I’ve come across a few t-shirts that I just had to have. I caught some sales and just went for it!

Here’s my haul:

I saw this shirt last summer in a department store and it was like 20 bucks, I was busy shopping for other things, so I couldn’t afford to just buy whatever I wanted. However, I recently saw it in a thrift store for $6 and I knew it was fate. Topanga Lawrence is such a free and wacky spirit. My inner flower child just gets her, and I knew I had to sport the “Find Your Topanga” slogan for everyone out there who feels like they can’t own their weirdness. Find it and own it! ;D

This next shirt was also $6 at that same thrift store and let’s be real Kelly and Zack were one of THE best 90’s power couples. If they don’t scream Relationship Goals, who does?

IMG_1367

This shirt was $8 at the thrift store and I just had to! I love me some Brandon/Kelly/ Dylan drama. But let’s be real #DAVIDSILVER Was The Real STUD. 😉

IMG_1369

These next three I found at Kohl’s. I always find great t-shirts there. The first two I saw and died. WHERE WERE THESE WHEN I HAD MY VIEWING PARTY for the Netflix revival. You guys know how I love my Gilmores! These two were 2 for $20! (And you can probably still get them!)

IMG_1376

This last one was just an ode to my love for one of my favorite Disney movies/ princesses. Now all I need is to find a Pocahontas tee and I’m golden! 😉 It’s on sale for $14.99! (And you can probably still get it!)

I love these T-shirts. I love feeling like I can bring a little nostalgia back into my life.  I have such fond memories of growing up while watching these tv shows and movies. It’s nice to be able to wear that and keep that same feeling alive and with me.
