December Favorites

Hey friends,

I know it has been a bit since I last posted. And quite frankly I should have known better than to expect that I could actually hop right back into my usual two week posting schedule after blogging for the entire month of October and then working on my first ever NaNoWriMo project all throughout November. See more on this HERE.

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely miss blogging! But since NaNo wrapped I kind of just threw myself into holiday mode with the determination to actually get things done earlier this year and not have to rush all over on December 23rd.. I have to say, of course there were some hiccups and there are a few last minute things to take care of this weekend, but for the most part I did pretty good. And just in case you were wondering, I was able to cross quite a few of my Winter Bucket List items off my list!

Normally around this time I would have posted way more holiday related content. And I can’t believe I haven’t yet. Christmas Eve is literally only 2 days away! I haven’t even started to plan out my 2019 goals yet either! And my full experience with #NaNoWriMo has yet to be written. I’ve gotten ahead of some things, but remain behind on others! You know what they say, life happens! Lol.

So I thought that for today’s random Saturday post that I could maybe do a little bit of a December Favorites. Show you some things I’ve been loving this December. This is such a festive time, and there are so many things I am loving lately.

Holiday Favorites

Christmas mug with some hot chocolate or festive tea

My aunt bought me this mug from Burlington, and it has become my favorite for this holiday season. I love the hippie camper truck vibes, how adorable is it?

mug life

Christmas music

These are the songs I have to listen to every year! They just put me in the best spirit. And it never fails, O Holy Night by Celine Dion makes me cry every time. Gets me EVERY time.

Christmas movies- Lifetime

Now I haven’t seen them all, but this channel has been on my tv non-stop. All the feel good, romantic Christmas vibes. I am here for it! So here are some of my favorites…

Noel- I cannot say enough good about this movie. It is incredible.

The Christmas Contract

Favorite scent

IMG_20181205_111739_793

My best friend was burning this in her house when I visited her and I fell in love with the scent from Bath & Body Works. I had ordered this mini one and burned it so quickly, that I just had to go out and buy the big size. It smells like a Christmas tree and it is perfect for anyone who has a fake tree, and misses that pine scent. I know I love it! And it’s made with essential oils so the scent is just so crisp and clean.

Favorite treats

Every holiday season Entenmann’s has it’s holiday gourmet cookies with the chocolate coated bottoms and sprinkled pop’ems. So anytime I see them, I have to pick them up, because they are my favorites!

Yes I was drinking tea in my new Christmas camper mug, eating my festive cookies, while watching a Lifetime Christmas movie. #LOVE

So there you have it, my December Favorites!

Have a Very Merry Christmas and  Happy Healthy New Year!

Winter 2018 Bucket List

Thanksgiving has come and gone and now it is Christmas Vibes time! And every year I try to compile a bucket list. I notice they are probably super similar every year. But hey, these are the most festive things, and they all just put me in the Christmas spirit. Whether or not I get to all of them, is another story. But a girl can try!

I know technically we are still in Fall, but it definitely feels like Winter out- we got snow BEFORE Thanksgiving, so it’s hard to keep the Fall vibes alive. I think I did pretty good with my Fall Bucket List, so it’s time to move on…

e244b-cute-photo-happy-valentines-day-love-quote

My Winter 2018 Bucket List

Buy a new tree (we chucked ours last year, it was shedding everywhere, and it was fake!)

Decorate

Buy this year’s ornament

Christmas shopping (I’ve actually started already, which is a miracle for this sometimes last minute girl!)

Fun Christmas outfits (I’m in the market for some new graphic tees, ugly sweaters, pjs. I actually just ought a tee with a snowmen on it, that says- “Oh SNOW You Didn’t!” hahaha)

Christmas movies and cocoa in a Christmas mug (my aunt just bought me the CUTEST one! I can’t wait to use it. I have been watching Lifetime on a loop with their cute Christmas movies! And Elf was on last night, so got that in already!)

Buy a Poinsettia

See the Christmas lights

Christmas vibes in the city

Find and print recipes (In my Thanksgiving research I came across a White Chocolate Cranberry Cookie recipe, and I saved it. So that’s what I think I’ll make! It just seemed more Christmasy than Thanksgivingy.)

Church tree lighting

Best Friend Sleepover (my best friend and I have done this for as long as I can remember and even though she’s married now, we still make time for our best friend traditions!)

Visit my junior high school friends (We’re all adults now with busy lives and it gets hard to see each other but we’ve been trying to make it more of yearly thing! Thanks to social media I feel like we keep up pretty well, but nothing is better than seeing each other in real time. It’s like no time has past at all!)

Dinner Exchange with my other bestie (my other best friend and I usually get together to exchange over a nice dinner. It’s a good time! And there’s usually wine and we’re foodies so there’s that, lol.)

Watch the Rockefeller Tree Lighting on tv- I always miss it!

Send out Santa Mail for my favorite kiddies! (this is a tradition I started with my god daughter when she was born and now I do it for her little brother and for my new little niece!)

What’s on your Bucket List this coming winter season?

Did I miss anything?

#BLOGTOBER Day 17- Some Recipes for the Fall Season

During holiday season, I usually like to bake some treats. The next few recipes, I’m going to share with you, I have baked for Thanksgiving. I know we still have a bit to go. We still have to celebrate Halloween, and I’m not one to rush holidays! But I just thought since I’ve tried out these recipes in the past, I can give you some ideas for planning ahead for your Thanksgiving meal. Or hey maybe you want to try one of these recipes out for Halloween, instead. Do whatever your heart desires!

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

I made these last year for Thanksgiving and added in my own little touch, by topping them off with Reese’s Pieces and adding Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups to the cookie tray display. It also added some fall color to them! I made 3 trays of cookies, because I was visiting a lot of different people, (which is usually the case) so I made enough for each house. Can’t show up empty handed! To add to the presentation, I wrapped them in saran wrap and added some fall colored bows. I included a little tag with twine that said Happy Thanksgiving, and that stated they were Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip flavored, just in case anyone had an allergy, I wanted them to be aware.

20171123_011153

I searched my recipe folder, and my favorites and I couldn’t find the recipe. However, I feel like I remember searching simple few ingredient peanut butter, chocolate chip cookies, so it might have been one of these, linked HERE, & HERE

Taste Verdict:

Peanut Butter and Chocolate are two of my favorite things. So I LOVED these. They were very rich and VERY peanut buttery. With milk, you can have one or two and it was delicious. I would definitely make these again. If you are not into peanut butter, I guess you can just omit it, and bake your traditional chocolate chip cookie. That’s always a crowd favorite.

Layered Pumpkin Lasagna

20151126_182521

20151126_195318

I found the exact recipe I used HERE

Taste Verdict:

This was a bit of a long process, and requires many ingredients, and ALOT of work. I wasn’t aware how time consuming it could be. It’s more of a no bake dessert, but you do have to create each layer and than build this sweet dessert lasagna. It’s a bit of a weird concept, but I thought it was actually really delicious and those who are pumpkin fans, seemed to enjoy it! I feel like I would tackle making this again, at some point.

Apple Pie Punch

Ingredients

20141127_220915
I found the exact recipe I used HERE

Taste Verdict:

In my family, I seemed to have taken on dessert and drinks. I usually bake for every holiday event. And one Thanksgiving I decided to add in a little drinky drank recipe. I omitted the vodka for this recipe, because I wanted it to be safe for the kiddies to drink, but guests were free to add a little spike if they felt so inclined to. This was a tasty treat. I’d definitely make it again. It was easy enough!

Have any fun fall recipes to share?

If you make any of these, let me know in the comments below!

BLOGMAS -Day 25- “A Husband for Christmas” [Part 9] Short Story

BLOGMAS DAY 25!!!!! WE DID IT!!!!!

A husband for christmas short story_Christmas 2017

Read Part 1 HERE, Part 2 HERE, Part 3 HERE, Part 4 HERE,

Part 5 HERE, Part 6 HERE, Part 7 HERE and Part 8 HERE.

A few minutes later Noel comes downstairs wearing a silk red robe.

Kris notices, his eye brow raising.

“Well hello,” he says smirking.

“So I didn’t have time to get you an actual gift, you know what with getting into a car accident and loses my memory and all.”

“Right,” Kris says nodding, a smirk on his lips.

“But I made you a card,” she says handing him it.

Kris turns the card over and it reads-

“Merry Christmas! Unwrap me.”

Noel stands there as she holds her hands out, an expression of expectation on her face.

“Well…whataya say?” She says laughing.

Kris laughs walking over to her, he unties her robe showing off her lacey red lingerie.

“I know we’re not in a hotel, and it’s not exactly like our usual tradition, but…”

“It’s perfect,” he says pulling her into a kiss and then lifting her up over his shoulder as he rushes up the stairs. Noel lets out a squeal.

***

Kris and Noel collapse onto their bed, exhausted, bright smiles on their faces.

“Best Christmas gift, ever.” Kris says looking over at Noel.

She laughs as she climbs back on top of him, “Let’s do it again.” Smirking, he pulls her into a kiss.

***

Later that night by the fire, Noel sits on the floor, near the crackling amber flames, dressed in one of Kris’ green and red plaid pajama tops. Kris wearing just the matching bottoms.

“So…I’m sorry I have to ask…did it feel different?” Noel asks slightly nervous of his response.

“It felt exactly the same,” he says smiling up at her, as he leans in kissing her cheek.

“I have to admit as excited as I was to be with you- and believe me I was very excited,” she says laughing. “I was also nervous. I was just worried that I wouldn’t know what you liked, I didn’t even really know what I liked.”

Kris smirks, “Oh, I know what you like.”

“Yes you do,” she says smiling as she kisses him, cupping his face.

He pulls away to look at her.

“What?” she asks.

Kris smirks, pulling her rings from his pajama pocket.

Noel smiles happily, “You found them!”

“No, I stole them.”

Noel looks at him confused.

“Why would you…”

Kris gets up on one knee.

Noel realizes and covers her mouth, her eyes beginning to water.

“I know that I haven’t been the easiest husband to handle throughout all of this. I wasn’t my best self right now and I feel like I made one hell of a poor impression. But it’s only because I lost my mind when I thought I might lose you. I spoke to the officer in charge of your accident, and I was so relieved to find out that the accident was ruled an actual accident. But that still just goes to show that anything can happen at any time. I just got so scared. And in the mist of all of that I’ve been so afraid that you would not want to even be near me and that we’d lose all we have. When I actually ended up pulling away out of fear of hurting you. And I know by doing that, although it wasn’t intentional, I know I made you feel bad and I’m so sorry. The truth is I just love you more than anything. I know you might not remember how this all happened the first time, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to do it a second time for the woman I love.” He says smiling. “Will you marry me…again,” he asks laughing.

Noel smiles brightly. “Absolutely,” she says as Kris slides her rings on her finger. She places a kiss on his lips.

“Now let’s go celebrate,” she says grabbing his hand and rushing off to their bedroom as he laughs.

Noel and Kris are laying under their red comfy covers, Kris kissing her as she sighs grasping at the sheets.

Noel suddenly has a million flashes of different moments of her life. She freezes as Kris notices, he stops and looks at her.

“Noel…baby…are you ok?”

Noel smiles, and cups his face, kissing him.

“So I guess we’re already working on babies, like we planned, huh? We’re not even married a full month!” She says.

Kris looks at her.

“I remember.” She whispers.

“Did you have another memory?”

“No, not just one, I remember everything,” she says smiling.

“Just like that?” He says confused.

“Well your power of seduction is just out of this world.” She says smiling.

“You really remember everything?”

Noel nods happily, “I don’t know it all just came rushing back at me.”

“What’s my middle name?”

“Kringle. Your parents had a sense of humor.”

“Baby… welcome back!” He says smiling and laughing as he kisses her.

Noel kisses him back, peck after peck after peck.

“I love you so much.”

“Mmm I love you too,” he says his voice husky.

“Looks like I got my husband back just in time for Christmas.”

“He never went anywhere.” Kris says kissing her.

***

A few months later- Valentine’s Day

Noel and Kris sit at a restaurant enjoying their dinner.

“So I have something for you.”

“Well I have something for you too, but I thought were were exchanging gifts at the house.”

“I can’t wait,” she says excitedly handing him the gift bag.

“Ok,” he says laughing, as he shuffles through the tissue paper. He pulls out a small white baby onesie that reads, “I love my daddy.”

Kris’ bright blue eyes shoot up locking with Noel’s sparkling brown eyes.

“Are you?…”

Noel nods a bright smile on her face.

“So we’re?…”

“We’re gonna have a baby!” She says happily. All eyes turning to them.

“Oh my god,” he says smiling brightly, getting up he rushes over to her, pulling her into a kiss. As onlookers smile and clap for them.

***

One Year Later- Christmas

Noel and Kris walk into their living room, Noel holding a beautiful, pink, rosey cheeked bundle in her arms.

“Merry First Christmas sweetheart,” Kris says kissing his daughter’s cheek. “Daddy and mommy love you so much.”

“Babe let’s hang up the stockings,” Noel says pointing to a storage bin near the fireplace.

“Yes, absolutely, come on baby girl, let’s hang up your stocking,” Kris says walking over toward the fireplace.

“Hold on, hold on, let me take a video for you!” Holly yells rushing in the room.

“There’s Aunt Holly!” Noel says smiling.

Holly holds up her phone as she records- a sparkling ring lays on her left head. Kris hangs up first his stocking, then Noel’s and then the third one-displaying the name- Joy.

“Yayyy!” Holly says smiling. “Hi pretty girl, Merry 1st Christmas! Beautiful.” she says putting her phone down and giving her niece a kiss on the forehead.

The doorbell rings and Holly rushes over, “I’ll get it,” she says happily.

Holly opens the door to find Jack.

“Hey you,” she says smiling.

“Merry Christmas baby,” he smirks, kissing her.

“Merry Christmas, come in, come in.” She says happily waving him in.

Just as Holly is about to close the door, a voice is heard.

“Hey wait for us!”

Holly stops and re-opens the door to find Rebecca and Griffin rushing up.

“Hey, Merry Christmas,” Holly says hugging them.

***

Noel and Kris sit around their kitchen table covered in food.

“I would just like to propose a toast,” Kris says holding up his glass, as everyone holds up their glasses. “Cheers to a beautiful holiday with an amazing group of people. Noel and I are happy to call you all family. Cheers to our greatest gift ever, our baby girl Joy. Cheers to Holly and Jack on their engagement, (Holly smiles at Jack, who leans in and kisses her cheek) and cheers to Rebecca and Griffin on their upcoming little bundle. Joy can’t wait to have a friend to play with. We love you guys so much, Merry Christmas!”

“And Cheers to my husband for finally opening up his own auto body shop, Joy and I are so proud of you baby,” Noel says kissing him.

Everyone cheers exchanging I love you’s and Holiday greetings. as the fire place crackles, Christmas music playing in the background and family love all around.

THE END.

Have a Very Merry Christmas!

And Thank You for reading!

Part 5 HERE, Part 6 HERE, and Part 7 HERE

Kris looks over at his shoulder as a sleeping Noel lays upon it.

He smiles, clicking the TV off, he tapes her gently.

“Hey babe, Noel…come on baby let’s get you to bed, you must be exhausted,” he whispers as she opens her eyes sleepily.

Kris guides them up the stairs.

Noel walks into their bed room and plops on the bed face down.

“Pajamas?” Kris asks with a laugh as he opens a draw taking some out.

Noel holds her hand out, her face buried into her pillow.

Kris tosses her the pajamas as Noel forces herself up, shuffling her feet over to their bathroom.

A few minutes later, Noel returns, ready for bed to find Kris laying on their chair, instead of the bed.

“What are you doing all the way over there,” she asks confused.

“Oh I just figured you’d be more comfortable having the whole bed to yourself.”

Noel gives Kris a face, “Are you kidding, this bed is enormous, get in.”

“I just thought you’d get a better, uninterrupted night’s sleep…”

“Get in the bed, Thornwood,” Noel says sternly.

“Yes ma’am.” Kris says smirking as he pulls the comforter back.

Noel smiles as she climbs into bed.

“Bossy.” Kris says.

“You love it,” Noel says turning toward him pursing her lips, a twinkle in her eye.

“Oh I do, it’s sexy as hell,” he says as they both laugh, Kris climbs into bed with her.

Noel snuggles into him, her left hand laying on his chest.

“I love you. And I’m just so happy that your okay and that your safe.”

“I love you too.” Noel says smiling as she places a sweet peck on his lips as they cuddle and drift off into a quick slumber.

***

The Next Morning

Noel is showering, as Kris makes the bed.

“Hey baby…” she yells in between soaping and shampooing.

“Yea?” Kris calls popping his head in by the door, his eyes falling on her engagement and wedding rings on a ring holder by the sink. He smirks and sneaks in, taking them, he puts them in his blazer pocket, the one he hung out for today’s festivities.

“It’s the start of day two, just saying…” she says with a smirk, as she looks at him from behind the shower curtain.

Kris laughs peeping back over and locking eyes with her.

“Wait I thought Day Two was Christmas Day, it’s only Christmas Eve.”

Noel’s brow furrows, “Didn’t yesterday count as one of the days?”

Kris laughs.

“I don’t have a problem with that.”

Noel smirks as she closes the curtain.

She shuts her eyes, as she lets the shampoo rinse from her hair. And suddenly she’s reminded of something.

“Hey babe, what time is your meeting?” she yells.

“In like an hour.” Kris calls back, as he brushes his teeth.

“Oh, cuz I’m a little insulted that I’ve been in this shower for over 5 minutes and you have yet to try and join me…I’m naked in here you know,” she says letting the water wet her hair as she shampoos.

Kris laughs loudly and he pulls his shirt off and drops his shorts hopping in, “Come here, girl,” he says as Noel squeals, her lips crashing onto his, as she drapes her arms around his neck.

Noel stands in the shower, a smile spreading across her face.

She finishes up and opens the curtain, a towel wrapped around her. Kris smiles at her, as he catches her eye from across the room.

Noel smiles leaning out of the door, “so I had another memory.”

Kris’ eyes light up, “Did you?”

“Yea, I was in the shower and I was complaining how you weren’t in there with me, and then you hoped right in,” she says laughing.

“Ah, yea, that was a hell of a morning, ” he says laughing.

Noel smiles.

“I’ll be downstairs setting somethings up for today, I’ll let you finish getting dressed.”

Noel nods as Kris exits their bedroom.

She walks over to her dresser and begins opening drawers. She finds her lingerie draw and pulls out a similar red lingerie like the one she had on the day of the accident.

She smiles to herself as she gets an idea.

***

“Hey Noel, baby, how’s it going up there, you okay?” Kris says yelling up to her.

Noel walks down the stairs is a sexy fitted red dress, her lips bright to match, and a set of gold pumps on her feet. Her hair covering her shoulders in soft brunette curls.

“Oh Holy Mother of God- you look…” he says rendered speechless.

“Is it too much?” she says turning so he can see the full view.

“No. It is… perfect,” he says his eyes glancing over her body.

“Yea?” she says smiling.

Kris nods circling his arms around her waist, as his hands fall to her bottom.

“There’s my butt,” he says whispering against her lips as he kisses her.

Noel laughs, “No longer hidden by baggy sweats.”

“Mm mm,” he says shaking his head as he kisses her again.

Noel smiles at him as her hands lay on his chest, her eyes fall upon her empty finger.

“Oh no,” she says nervously.

“What?” Kris says worried.

“My rings. I’m not wearing them,” she says rushing upstairs.

Kris smirks to himself as he follows her up the stairs.

Noel rushes into her bathroom, and she doesn’t see the rings there.

“Oh god, no, I don’t see them anywhere,” she says frantically looking through cabinets and on the floor. “I put them right here on my ring holder, while I showered.”

“I hate to say it babe, but maybe they got knocked into the drain.”

“Oh no, you really think so?” Noel asks panicking.

“It’s a possibility.”

“Oh my god, I’m so so sorry.” she says feeling terrible.

“Don’t stress it,  I’ll figure out a way to get it back.”

“How are you gonna do that?”

“I have my ways,” he says smirking at her.

“I just feel so naked without them.”

Kris smiles at her, “Can we just avoid saying the word Naked? I’m hanging on by a thread here, and then you had to come out here wearing that dress.”

“I can take it off if you want,” she says smirking knowing she’s just adding to the sexual tension.

Kris smiles, and pulls her to him, “No absolutely not, I’ll be helping you with that later.”

Noel sighs as she pulls him into a kiss.

***

The door bell rings and Kris smiles at a happy Noel.

“Our first guest!” Noel yells as she hops toward the front door.

Kris follows behind her.

Noel opens the door to find Rebecca and Griffin.

“Hi,” Rebecca says excitedly.

Kris hops in, Noel babe this is…

“Rebecca, I recognize her from the pictures. Hi.” she says smiling as she gives her a hug.

“Please come in,” Noel says stepping aside as she turns to Griffin, “And you are Griffin.”

“Guilty,” he says.

“Come in, come in, make yourselves at home.” Noel says ushering them in, as she gives Griffin a hug as well.

***

A Few Hours Later

Noel sits chatting with her sister Holly and Rebecca, as Kris hangs with Griffin.

Another knock is heard at the door as Kris calls out, “I’ll get it, it’s probably Jack,” he says opening the door to find Jack holding a bottle of wine.

“Hey man, thanks for coming,” as they fist bump.

Jack walks in and instantly his eyes fall upon Holly, who smiles at him.

“Oh hey, you haven’t met Noel’s sister yet have you? This is Holly, Holly- Jack.”

“Nice to meet you” Jack says shaking her hand.

“Nice to meet you too,” she smiles sweetly, a twinkle in her eye.

Kris looks over at Noel who is laughing and having such a great time, a smile he could never get enough of.

***

“Good night,” Noel says smiling as she closes the door, she turns to Kris who stands there behind her waiting .

“So, I believe you and I have plans for the rest of the night,” Noel says walking toward him, he smirks rushing toward her, he pulls her to him, kissing her.

Noel looks up at him, “Give me two minutes,” she whispers walking up the stairs.

Kris smirks as he watches after her his eyes glancing over her body, he reaches into his pocket and looks at the rings in his hand, a smirk playing on his face.

Read Part 1 HERE, Part 2 HERE, Part 3 HERE, Part 4 HERE, and Part 5 HERE

Noel walks over to gather her things, excitedly and she hurries along.

Dr. King looking over at her with a smile as she notices the worry etched on Kris’ face.

“Dr. King…” he utters.

“Yes?”

“Are you sure, she’s okay to go home, it’s only been a couple of days.”

“I would not let her leave if I thought she was at risk in any way.”

“I know I just- I’m worried…I don’t want to rush her recovery and she’s like full steam ahead with wanting to know things and be like we used to be in hopes that it could jog her memories. I’m just worried all this will do the opposite and will instead lead to a set back.”

“I’m not going to lie to you, Mr. Thornwood, there is always the possibility of setbacks with any surgery or accident. But in my true medical opinion aside from your wife’s memory loss, she is fine. Being home and out in the real world may actually do her some good.”

“Is there anything I should be doing to help her along?” he says whispering as he glances at an oblivious Noel dancing around and packing up her things.

“Talk to her, show her pictures, videos, tell her stories, take her to places of significance…here, take my card, if you have any questions about anything, call me, I don’t want you to feel alone in this.”

“Thank you, so much,” Kris says taking the card.

Noel hurries over seconds later, with her bag.

“So I’m all ready, can we get me signed out?”

“Yes right this way, the nurse has the paper work at the front desk.”

Kris reaches and takes the bag from Noel. She smiles at him and kisses his cheek.

“Um, Dr. King,” she says causing her to halt and turn before leaving the room.

“Are we allowed to…ya know…” she says gesturing a wave of her hand accompanied by wide eyes.

Kris’ eyes widen as he looks over at his wife, shocked doesn’t begin to describe how he felt.

“Noel…” Kris begins.

“If…you are asking me if I think it is safe for you two to have sex at this point in your recovery…” Dr. King says trying to gage the situation, her face slightly confused.

Noel nods, “Yes that’s what I’m asking.”

Kris coughs and looks down.

“Oh now, who’s blushing,” Noel says looking over at Kris. “It’s a valid question,” She says.

“It is, I agree. You should know exactly what your body can handle at this state in your recovery. In my medical opinion I think waiting at least a day or two before any sexual activity would be your safest bet. Although you are recovering better then we could have ever expected, you still did have surgery and you did suffer a concussion, so it’s important to take it easy and not exert yourself too soon.”

“Ok so, like two days then?” Noel says.

“If you feel like your up for it in a day or two, (she says awkwardly looking from Noel to Kris who still seems uncomfortable) then yes, I think you would be fine.”

“Great!” she says smiling as she takes Kris’ hand and leads the way out, Dr. King following close behind a small laugh on her lips.

***

Kris and Noel walk out of the hospital and Kris leads the way toward the parking garage, Noel tightening her grip on his hand.

“Are you cold?” he asks looking over at her.

“No, I’m fine,” Noel says smiling.

“It’s not too far, Jack brought my car over last night, and he said it was parked right on the main floor.”

“Ok, no problem.”

Kris and Noel enter the parking garage and make their way to their car.

Kris beeps the car as the locks open, he throws the bag in the back seat and then walking Noel over to the passenger seat, he opens the door for her.

“Thank you,” she says smiling as she hops in.

Kris gets in and starts the car, waiting for it to warm up.

“Did I upset you, asking Dr. King about when we can have sex?”

“I’m not upset, I just-I was surprised I guess. I didn’t think you’d be up for something that intimate, just yet.” he says looking over at her.

“Well let’s see, I may not remember everything, but there are some things I do know.”

“Oh yea?” Kris says smirking.

“I know I’m your wife and I know that I think you are really sexy.”

Kris laughs and leans over to her, “Trust me, I think your even sexier,” he whispers.

Noel smiles, as Kris leans over placing a soft kiss on her lips.

“Hey you got me to fall back in love with you in a matter of days, so me wanting to have sex so soon, really shouldn’t be a surprise to you.” she says laughing.

“Can you be serious for two seconds.?

“No.” Noel says smirking.

Kris rolls his eyes, a smirk on his lips.

“Sex is a big deal with us…it’s not just a physical thing, it’s a whole other emotional level.”

“And your afraid that I’ll ruin it. Because I’m not me. Or at least not the me your used to?

“That is absolutely not what I said nor is it what I mean. I just don’t think we should rush it.”

“Are you afraid to be with me, is that it, because I’m not going to break, Kris.”

“Let’s just talk about this at home, okay?” he says pulling out of the garage.

Noel huffs and looks out the window.

Feeling bad for how he’s been acting Kris looks over at her, while at a red light.

“Hey…”

Noel turns to him, obviously frustrated and hurt.

“I’m sorry. I love you.”

Her face softens and falls into a small smile.
“I don’t know what I’m doing here, this is completely new territory for me.”

“Oh me too,” she says laughing.

“I know and I am not meaning to make this about me. I just- I don’t want to-“

“Shhh,” Noel says putting her finger to his lips. “I love you, and you love me, let’s just focus on that.”

Kris sighs and smiles, “Come here,” he says smiling as Noel leans into him, he kisses her once again.

“Let’s get you home,” he says with a smile, his hands on the wheel.

“Yes, please!” she says happily.

Kris begins driving.

A few minutes away from home, a car stops short in front of Kris, causing Kris to slam on the breaks. Instinctively he places his hand out over Noel, to shield her.

Noel’s body jerks slightly forward as her seat belt prevents her from going anywhere, an image of a loud crash and shattered glass jolts through her mind, as she remembers a slight moment of her collision.

“I’m so sorry, are you ok?” Kris says nervously looking at Noel.

Noel stares ahead, frozen.

“Noel, baby…”

Noel’s heart begins to race, her palms start to sweat and the car begins to close in on her. She starts to feel her oxygen suck out of her.

“I…I can’t breathe,” she says clutching her chest.

“Wha- What?” Kris says jolting and turning, reaching for her.

“I need to get out of this car…”

“Ok, um, ok…” Kris pulls over to the side of the road and hops out of the car rushing to her side. Opening the door, he brings her to her feet.

“Hey, hey, hey come here, I got cha,” he says sitting her on a bench near by. “What’s happening, I need you to tell me what your feeling,” Kris says staring into her eyes, his heart pounding as the nerves start setting in.

Noel starts to breath deeply, as she begins to calm herself.

“I’m ok, I’m sorry I just, I felt like the car accident just came flooding back full speed, once that guy stopped short in front of us.”

“Ok, well just breathe baby, small, steady breaths, you were probably having a bit of a panic attack,” he says kneeling in front of her and holding her hand, while his other hand cups her face.

Noel nods as she starts to calm down.

“Are you ok?”

“Yes, I’m ok.”

Kris looks at her, Noel noticing the fear on his face.

“I’m ok, I promise,” she says cupping his face in her hands.

Kris closes his eyes and puts his forehead against hers.

“Let’s go home,” Noel whispers.

“You sure, we can wait a few more minutes.” Kris says staring up at her.

“No, I can’t wait to be in my own home, with my husband.”

Kris smirks and leaning up he kisses her, as they then walk hand in hand back torward their car.

BLOGMAS -Day 13- “A Husband for Christmas” Short Story

lights blogmas edit

A husband for christmas short story_Christmas 2017

Noel smiles into her mirror, pulling at her fitted emerald green mini dress, she turns in her mirror to check the back of her outfit.

Just as she touches up her red lipstick, her phone begins to play a Christmas melody aloud.

Smiling at the “Hubby” title that flashes across the phone, she picks it up to answer it.

“Hey baby,” she says her smile evident through her voice.

Kris smiles as he stands in the corridor of a fancy restaurant.

“Hey baby, are you on your way?”

“About to leave in a few minutes, just putting on the finishing touches.”

“Ah, all the bells and whistles for me?” he asks with a comic feel to his voice.

“All the bells and whistles,” she says with a laugh.

Kris looks around surveying that he’s out of ear shot before making his next comment.

“Please tell me your wearing that sexy red lingerie I bought you?”

Noel’s eyes go wide, as she gasps, Kris laughs.

“You better be alone right now,” she says her hands on her hips, as she rolls her sparkling brown eyes.

“Baby I think I can actually hear you blushing,” he says with a chuckle.

“Shut up,” she says laughing as she flips her perfectly curled brunette locks behind her.

“I’m sure you look perfect, just get your sexy ass over here quick. Everyone is asking me where my wife is and I’m kind of missing you.”

Noel laughs and smiles at the wedding picture of she and Kris on her vanity.

“I’m on my way.”

“Ok I’ll see you soon.”

“Bye, I love you.”

“I love you…bye babe.”

Kris smirks and heads back into the restaurant.

Noel rushes downstairs passing pictures of she and Kris throughout their relationship hung up on the walls of their cozy home.

She grabs her purse, coat and car keys and rushes out the door.

Kris is mingling at his holiday party, he checks his watch in between pleasant conversations with coworkers.

Time begins to  pass and Kris begins to worry, he walks away to the side and dials his wife’s number.

It rings a few times and then goes to voice mail.

Kris’ brow furrows, “Hey baby, it’s me. It’s been a bit since you said you were leaving. I figured you’d be here by now. Give me a ring, let me know your ok. I love you.”

Kris steps outside to look around.  The New York City streets glisten with Christmas lights.

Kris checks his phone again.

Nothing.

A co- worker Jack, steps outside, calling to him; “Hey Kris, what are you doing out here man?”

“I’m just waiting for Noel, she should have been here by now.”

“Did you call her?”

“Yea but it just rings and then goes straight to voicemail.”

“Well maybe she left her cell at home. I’m sure she’s on her way, you know the city, she probably just got stuck in traffic. Come on back in, it’s freezing.”

“No man, something feels wrong. I feel like something bad might have happened.”

“What? Are you crazy? What now that your married your gonna turn into a neurotic?”

“When it comes to Noel, I’m always a neurotic. She’s my everything. And she knows that. Which is why she always has her phone and she always picks up. And if she can’t pick up she texts.”

Kris looks at his phone again, he begins to pace, running his hands through his sandy brown hair, as he dials Noel again.

No answer.

Kris huffs, and leaves yet another message. “Noel, baby, please call me. Where are you? I need to know that your ok. Call me.”

Kris hangs up his phone.

He looks at Jack, “I need to go look for her,” he says beginning to turn away, as his phone begins to ring, mirroring the same Christmas melody Noel had playing earlier when he called her.

“Oh thank god, that’s her,” he says with relief.

“See there ya go, no need to get all worried,” Jack says.

“Hey Noel, Baby, where are you?”

“Hello Mr. Thornwood?”

“Yes. Who’s calling, where’s my wife?” Kris’ face falls, as his heart freezes in his chest, it begins to tighten knowing his suspicions might be true. The voice on the other end was not the voice he was used to. The happy, smiley tone of his beautiful wife.

“Mr. Thornwood, my name is Dr. King, your wife was in a car accident, we are prepping her for surgery now, she’s at Mount Sinai Hospital.”

“Oh my god…What do you mean….What happened, what kind of surgery?”

“Mr. Thornwood, I don’t want to alarm you but your wife has to be tended to quickly. Once you get here, I will have an nurse fill you in.”

“Oh my god. I-I’m on my way,” he says his mind blurring, his sight hazy.

“What?” asks his co-worker.

“I have to go,” Kris says rushing toward the street to hail a cab.

“Kris, man, what is it?” Jack says following him.

“My wife, she was… in some kind of accident, she’s in the hospital.”

Kris begins to panic as cab after cab passes him by.

“I have to get to her.”

“Kris, Kris come on, let’s take my motorcycle, it’s around the back,” Jack says taking off quickly.

Kris nods and rushes off with his friend.

***

The hospital doors open, and Kris rushes in, blinded by the bright lights and chaos.

“Excuse me,” he says springing toward the nurses station.”Dr. King called me, my name is Kris Thornwood, my wife….(his eyes begin to fill up with tears) my wife… Noel Thornwood was in an accident. They said she’s in surgery. I need someone to tell me what’s happening.”

The nurse sympathetically looks up at him.

“Hi Mr. Thornwood, Dr. King told me to expect you. Your wife is in surgery now.”

“What happened? Is she okay?”

“She was in a car accident and suffered some head injuries and internal abdominal bleeding. There’s an officer waiting near by to explain the details of the accident to you.”

“Is she going to be ok?”

“The doctor’s are doing everything they can do to make sure that she’ll be able to make a full recovery.”

Kris begins to feel his chest tighten up again, the heaviness creeping in, panic setting in.

“Excuse me, sir, are you Mr. Thornwood?” a police officer asks walking over to him.

Kris looks up, “Yes, do you know what happened with my wife’s accident?”

“Your wife was involved in a head on collision, unfortunately there was some black ice that caused another car to spin out of control and drive into her. Although the roads are icy this time of a year, we are still investigating the driver who drove into your wife. There could be a possibility that the driver was under the influence.”

“So…your saying my wife’s accident wasn’t actually an accident?”

“As I said sir, we are still gathering evidence. There is no reason to believe anything foul was at play just yet. I assure you we will follow through and get to the bottom of this.”

“Oh my god…I can’t believe this.”

Dr. King emerges from the operating room with a look of exhaustion.

“Who is here for Noel Thornwood?”

Kris turns and rushes over-“I’m her husband Kris. How is he? Is she gonna be ok?”

“She’s in recovery now, the surgery went very well, and we will know more about her release once she fully wakes up. She’s been in and out for a while, but she is just coming down from all the aesthesia, so maybe give her a minute to adjust.”

“Can I see her?”

“Yes but if she does wake up,  she’ll be groggy, so just make it brief.”

“Thank you.”  Kris says rushing in.

Kris walks into the recovery room to see Noel laying in a hospital bed dressed in a typical hospital robe he knows she would hate, covered in bruises and bandages. Her color pale. Her smile, faded. Her engagement ring and wedding band gone.

Kris’ eyes well up all over again, as he walks slowly over to her bed side.

“Baby, my god, what happened to you? I’m so sorry.”

Kris reaches and takes her hand in his lacing his fingers through hers.

“Noel, baby, I’m here. I’m with you.”

Kris’ eyes widen as he feels Noel’s grip tighten around his hand.

“Noel, Noel I’m here, baby, I’m here.” he says stroking her cheek, his wedding band catching the light from the terrible fluorescent glare above.

Noel begins to stir, her eyes flutter open.

Kris sighs heavily.

“Hi. Hey beautiful. God, I’m so happy your ok. I love you so much,” he says leaning down and placing a sweet, yet firm kiss on her lips, his tears streaming down his face.

Noel seems uncomfortable, she stirs, her eyes darting around, trying to focus, trying to make sense of her surroundings.

“Baby, hey, I’m here, can you see me, what’s wrong? Are you in pain?”

Noel looks up into his eyes.

“Hey, what is it?” he says leaning in and cupping her face.

“Who…Who are you?” Noel asks, Kris’ face dropping along with his heart.

BLOGMAS -Day 11- The pressure the Holidays put on us

lights blogmas edit

Every year I say the same thing. I want to get ahead of the madness. I want to decorate early so that I can enjoy it longer, I want to find the perfect pair of pajamas, the perfect ugly sweater, the perfect dessert recipe. I want to shop for gifts earlier this year and not have to go around crazy rushing the last few days before. And every year I end up a stressed out mess. Some things I wanted to do- I didn’t, and things I didn’t want to happen- happened.

Because in the mist of my already stressful daily life- throw in the holiday chaos and I’m a ball of nerves.

I did a whole post on this topic last year, titled “Have the holidays become too stressful?” And it’s crazy that every word can still ring true for this year too.

As I get older, I try to do gifts for everyone and all the kids, and along with being in two other weddings coming up, (one right after Christmas) my funds are kind of low and it’s been kind of tough to budget everything in. At the end of the day I wish I could just focus on the real meaning of this time of year. The birth of Christ. The celebration of love, friendship, and family. A memory of togetherness. You don’t have to put a price tag on any of that.

It’s hard not to let my cynical side out during this time. You see others decorating and buying gift after gift, everything just seems so easy for them. They know how  to get shit done. But I know how Facebook is deceiving. If I were to put a picture of my tree up, it would look all sparkly and pretty, sure. But it wouldn’t show me hounding my dad to bring up the tree from the basement, or me and my mom stringing beads on each branch with tired eyes. You don’t see the stress. But it’s there, for everyone.

There are two sides to me during this time of year- that girl who wants to be- festive af- that’s what all the kids are saying these days, right?- and that girl who gets overwhelmed from all angles and starts to feel run down and anxious. And the latter is just not the best feeling, especially when society tells you- you should be happy.

Which brings me to my next point- it’s okay to not be ok, during the holidays. It’s ok to feel funky, to feel stressed- or going even further- to feel depressed or sad. For some people the holidays can be really hard. There are people who are grieving a loved one, or who just suffered a terrible heartbreak, or who may be suffering from an illness, or just feeling stressed from work, or some people who may not have jobs at all and are just struggling to make ends meet. Or there may be people who may just be going through something difficult, personally. At times, in life, sometimes when it rains it pours and it could be a combination of a bunch of things that could be hindering one’s Christmas spirit. The truth is, you never know what someone else is going through.

So no, Christmas doesn’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to decorate early, you don’t have to find the perfect gifts for everyone, you don’t have to stress what to wear, or what to bake. Do what you can do, with the means you have, and do it with love. And those who love you will understand you. If not, that’s unfortunate for them. Because yes Christmas is magical, but it’s just another day with the same people and no matter what as long as you are surrounded by the ones you love, celebrating the birthday of our creator, than what more could you really ask for? Materialistic items get shoved in drawers and closets, put in basements, under beds and forgotten about. So why do we put so much weight on it.

I know it’s hard not to. I know it’s sometimes a comparing game. Well they got me this last year, and I only got them this, so this year I have to do better. Or- they got me 5 gifts, so I have to get them 5 gifts. Tit for tat on Christmas? No thanks. 😉

Every year I stress myself out and in the end- it all comes together. It always does. My last minute shopping forces me to make quicker decisions, my baking gets done, my decorations get put up. Whatever needs to get gone, will get done. Whatever doesn’t, won’t. It’s simple really. So why can’t we live more simplistically? It’s about prioritizing. Truth be told I’m not quite the best at doing so myself. But I’m trying to learn to be better at it. Here’s wishing we all learn to take a deeper look at Christmas for what it really is. A time to celebrate who really put us here.

Deep breaths friends, we’ll get through this together!

Have you guys ever felt stressed during the holidays?

Tell me about it in the comments below!

BLOGMAS -Day 9- A Christmas Morning Memory

lights blogmas edit

Growing up, my brother and I lived for Christmas morning. We were always up bright and early, jumping on our parents bed to wake up so that we can start opening our presents.

My Brother & I visiting Santa in the 90’s 🙂

However it’s important to note, that even though we loved getting presents, we also grew up going to church regularly, we were raised to know the true meaning of Christmas.

Referring back to Christmas morning when I was younger, there is one story that I will never forget.

I awoke early in the morning and snuck a peek at the pile of gifts that laid beneath the tree. There were so many that they spread throughout the floor. And standing in the middle of the room was a Toy Story cardboard toy display. The kind they used to have in Burger King and McDonald’s that showcased whatever toys were featured in the happy meal. I remember being obsessed with collecting those things!

I remember seeing this and rushing into my room, and pulling my brother awake to see. Drowsy he followed and I still remember his face of shock.

When our parents woke up, we finally got the back story of how this thing could possibly end up in our living room.

My dad asked if he could buy the whole display and well…they let him. So he did.

I remember playing with my Little Bo Peep like crazy. And it was the coolest gift ever!

Do you have any special Christmas moments you still remember from your childhood?
