Although it’s been about 5 years since a Justin Timberlake album, we still had a lot of music from him 2 summers ago, when he did the soundtrack album for DreamWorks “Trolls,” where he also starred as “Branch,” and released the mega summer anthem “Can’t Stop The Feeling.”

But it’s that time again, my fellow fangirls… Justin Timberlake is back at it again, with a full solo album!

It all started last weekend when his website JustinTimberlake.com just displayed this logo…

Then shortly after he released a trailer introducing his new album…entitled “MAN OF THE WOODS.” It was a very artistic, beautiful, scenic video, with Justin’s voiceover explaining how this album is very personal, inspired by his wife and son, as we see him with them in the video. Something that I feel is very rare for him to do. And at the very end of the trailer it is announced that Justin’s 5th solo studio album will be released February 2nd.

Along with that announcement came the announcement of the album’s 1st single, “Filthy.”

I have to say upon first listen/first watch I was not completely in love with it. Which you know as a MAJOR JT FANGIRL I was quite heartbroken to admit. But I heard the song for the first time as I watched the video. And I think that’s what threw me, it was too much to take in all at once. I was confused by the song, something felt like it was missing, I kept waiting for a mega chorus that didn’t come. I kept grooving, then stopping, I was unsure if I liked it.

I cracked up so hard watching this, because I was just like same, Perez, same. Except maybe not so vulgar in my dance moves. Haha.

But then again I was watching this bizarre futuristic robotic performance. The video is basically this tech conference held in Malaysia in 2028, as Justin performs behind the scenes, a Robot takes his place on stage. Like a literal Robot Justin, grinding on Malaysian girls quite vulgarly. I was so confused. It wasn’t at all what I expected after seeing such a rustic, woodsy, man living off the land trailer.

Had I just listened to the song on it’s own, I think I would have had a different first reaction. However, as I gave it a second listen it began to grow on me. And I started to vibe with it. In other words, I’ve been jamming to it all day! 🙂 I feel like I had the same experience with Sexy Back when it first came out, it was so produced and you could barely hear his true vocals and it wasn’t something I was used to. But after a while it grew on me, and it became a song I love and that album became an album that I loved and that broke records! So I figured I had to give this one a minute to sink in. And it has. And I’m so glad. Because trust me, no fangirl ever wants to admit they don’t like bae’s music. But honestly speaking, I just can’t vibe with that music video. It’s too futuristic, Steve Jobs on crack for me. Lol. Artistic, Sure. Different, Absolutely. So I guess that’s enough…for now. 😉

Timberlake enlisted long time friends and partners; Timbaland and Pharrell Williams (the Neptunes) for this album. That in itself should tell you this album is going to be a force to be reckoned with!

The track list looks like it fits much more along the lines of the trailer video, with titles like Flannel, and Livin’ Off The Land. I’m super excited for HERS, I loved all his preludes and interludes on Future/Sex Love Sounds, and I just feel like it’s going to be like this sexy love ballad.

A.K.? Could that be ya girl…Alicia Keys, that would be an incredible collaboration, if I remember correctly pretty sure they were photographed together recently at the Rock In Rio, event…coincidence I think not! 😉

If you noticed in the Filthy artwork he posted to his social media (shown above) it reads “1 of 4,” as quoted in the article linked above…

“The remaining three singles will be released weekly beginning January 18.”

In other words we’ll be getting weekly singles, until the release of the album, and just two days after the album release, Timberlake will perform the coveted Half Time show at this year’s Super Bowl on Sunday, February 4th! This will be his first time since his “wardrobe malfunction” incident with Janet Jackson in 2004. I’m just hoping he brings out *N’SYNC, who’s with me?. 😉 No but really, who’s with me?

Ok so it’s been 3 years since Justin Timberlake has released new music. And I honestly have been so busy with life that I didn’t realize it actually had been that long. Time flies. Also his last tour lasted like 2 years, 2 albums, and I went to three of his shows, so I needed a fangirl vacation. #25goingon80 #ImAnOldLady #IStillCreepedHisSocialMediasTho #CuzDuh

But when Justin Timberlake starts throwing out sneaky hints just a few days before dropping new music, the fangirl in me is all ears. Not to mention the cryptic pics of him in the studio with big names and good friends like Timbaland, Pharrell, and Little Big Town.

The song is called “Can’t Stop The Feeling” and is an original single from DreamWorks Animation’s “Trolls” movie soundtrack, which Timberlake has executive produced and will be voicing the character of “Branch.” (Soundtrack-September 23rd; Film November 2016.)

How great is this song?

The song was released Friday, May 6th at midnight, or so I thought. I think it was leaked earlier, but I didn’t listen because I didn’t want to risk getting a bad version and spoiling it for myself. Other than Justin’s few teases, I waited it out. But then I saw people reacting to it and Justin responding before midnight and I realized it was up on Justin’s website with all the ways to find it. So I previewed it on Spotify (Cuz I was dying to hear it!) and I immediately started grooving. It is a true dance theme, feel good, happy song. You can’t help but be happy and dance along. So my next step- iTunes, #downloaded.

I really didn’t have any doubt that I’d love it.

It’s uplifting, and soulful, and the lyrics are magical. Justin’s vocals are on point. #ThatFalsettoTho and that funky guitar riff…yesss!!! If you think this song isn’t your jam, give it a second. It’ll get to you. The chorus is so catchy and so good! It’s for sure going to be the Summer of 2016 anthem. I can just see little baby Silas dancing with his daddy to this song as he awaits the “Trolls” movie!

BLOG UPDATE-

So I was trying to slowly make Sundays my third upload day but I kinda fell short yesterday. I wanted to post something yesterday in honor of Justin Timberlake’s 35^th Birthday, because I mean what kind of fangirl would I be if I didn’t. And since he’s not on tour or putting out an album, my fangirl posts have been lacking. But I got distracted the whole day, and then Grease: Live was on and I was hooked for 3 hours. By the time I started on my post, my internet and my computer decided to act up and I was trying to post before midnight but it just was an ongoing issue. So end result it was a failed mission. I am not going to rule out making Sundays my third post day, but I’m just going to see if it’s feasible. I’ll test the waters a bit this month. We’ll use February as a trial month for that and see how things go. Any way I’m still posting the Justin Tribute today (which was meant for Sunday,) but I will also be posting a review of Grease: Live a little later on, as an official Monday post. It’s going to take some time, because I have a lot of thoughts going on in my head about that one! Spoiler Alert: I am currently listening to the original movie’s soundtrack because my obsession with Grease has ignited. Anyway enough rambling…

13 Unanswered Questions; Fangirl Life

So as the cleaning out and reorganizing my bedroom is slowly coming to a close, I have to share with you my adorkable findings.

Here is a list of questions I found that the teenage version of me would ask none other than Justin Timberlake, if I got the chance. These questions are very talk show interview esque (because duh, #fangirl).

Judging by these questions I’d probably date this back to anywhere over 9 years ago, so I was still a teen (so cut me some slack! I know these questions/comments are lame, haha.)

Questions for Justin

What nationality are you? I’ve read many different things. I know Timberlake is an Irish name? So?…

The man likes to drink, so I mean come on… Irish is a given, right? #ImIrishToo #ButNotMuchOfADrinker #SoTheresThat #Stereotypes 😉

*2015 Update: This question has always haunted me. I still don’t know the answer for sure.

2. Do you regret being a member of *NSYNC? Because you seem so almost aggravated when you get asked about the band. I mean speaking personally I grew up listening to *NSYNC, Britney, Christina. I was a 90’s kid and that would just break my heart if you regretted it. Because you guys as a group were a huge part of my childhood.

*2015 Update: HAHAHAHAHA (no but seriously sometimes this question still applies.)

3. How do you manage to stay so humble in this business, and with everything you’ve already accomplished? I mean you’re still young and you’ve already done so much; music, acting, a clothing line, restaurant, golf course, a fragrance. I mean many wonder if there’s anything you can’t do?

*2015 Update: Clearly I’m in awe of him, and maybe there’s some unintentional flirtation going on here. haha.

4. Do you no longer have a desire to make any new music of your own? I mean I know you’ve been working with a number of artists since your last album, but just for you personally, have you given any thought to touring again? Or is that just not a possibility anytime soon? I mean just lift my spirits, you will eventually be making a third record right?

*2015 Update: The pain that was those 7 Justin Timberlake music-less years. But if teenage Michelle only knew the whirlwind that was to come. 3 attended concerts and 2 albums later, I’m a solid believer he’s never going anywhere.

5. I know you meet a lot of people and a lot of fans, but is there any that you actually remember and truly value meeting? Or are they all just one big blur of fans?

6. I know you’re very close with Ellen. How did you two meet, and what made you two become so close?

All making comebacks and bringing us back into a world we once treasured and still do.

Awesome? Or should we leave well enough alone.

Should stories be reinvented and revisited to fit current times or should they have ended where they did?

Just a memory.

Is this nostalgic culture hindering our plans to move forward?

The 90’s kids have been labeled the nostalgic generation.

As a ‘91 baby, I can attest to that first hand.

The past decade has left such an imprint on my soul that it both excites and pains me to see something from that time.

Buzzfeed you get me.

Lisa Frank and Smackers lip products take on a whole new meaning to me now.

Back then they were just the cool fun thing, now they are the epitome of my childhood brought to the surface.

Why?

Because it brings me back there.

To something that has long since been over.

The simplicity of it.

The carefree nature of a child is untouchable.

The idea that the world is this open, honest forum to do with what you please.

This idea that you can be anything and everything you want.

No limitations.

No restrictions.

No time restraints.

No-one telling you, you can’t or you won’t make it.

Just dreams and awe.

And the possibility for anything.

The possibilities were endless.

One day maybe you’ll be a ballerina!

The next a teacher!

The day after that a ballet teacher!

The future was grand.

But now those 90’s babies are in their 20’s and the real world is kicking in and we are realizing it moves faster than we ever could have thought. And that maybe it’s not as nice as we thought either. That it’s going to take a little more than wishing on a star to make your dreams come true.

Enter the internet and boom…total chaos!

Growing up I never had a laptop. I was lucky I had a house computer.

But I would get yelled out for being on it for too long, because well you couldn’t get through to the house phone if someone was on the internet. Let’s hear it for dialup!

We didn’t have Facebook, or twitter, or instagram. We didn’t have ways of competing with our peers past the face to face contact we were forced to endure. Sometimes they were pleasant sometimes they weren’t. Some friendships last a lifetime, some don’t.

I didn’t even have my own cellphone until I got to high school, up until middle school I shared one with my mom! #firstworldproblems

It wasn’t until I was in high school that I even considered getting a Myspace.

And even then the thought of putting my life online creeped me out.

And yet a decade later here I am typing this to you, sharing my thoughts with people I don’t know.

Things really do change.

Now, if you’re not on all these platforms you’re somehow deemed irrelevant or let’s face it… a hermit.

I think change can be good, but it’s dealing with that change and accepting it that makes it hard for us to move on.

Because maybe we convince ourselves that the best years are gone.

When really we haven’t seen anything yet.

So it’s ok to feel nostalgic.

Just don’t allow yourself to dwell in it.

I really need to learn to take my own advice.

If you find yourself mourning the past, understand you’re not alone, we’re in this together.

Because there is always going to be a next chapter.

There are going to be new faces, new adventures, new locations, new things that are going to come in and out of your life.

Some may be easier to let go of then others.

Some may fight their way into your heart and stay for good.

But you will always have your memories no matter what. So take your real pictures along with your mental pictures and hold them in your heart. Because some moments you can’t catch on camera.

Because one day you’re gonna be telling your kids all about the 90’s and 00’s and maybe they’ll be into it.

And you can relive it with a fond memory with your feet rooted in the present. Because where you’ve been is important, but where you’re going is even better. Be present. And enjoy. And keep your fingers crossed for a real freakin *NSYNC reunion..(I’m never letting that one go!) 😉 #FangirlLife #SorryNotSorry

Fangirl Report…

I just have to share how proud I am of this man, of this creative soul. On Sunday night Justin Timberlake received the Innovator Award at the 2015 iheartradio music awards. As a fangirl of his for most of my life, I have always rooted for him to succeed. He always had something special about him. It’s an amazing feeling to see the world fully hopping on the Justin Timberlake bandwagon. I’d like to think I started the trend. 😉 After all I’ll tell anyone who will listen (and some who won’t) just how freakin’ amazing he is. I’m a walking spokesperson. This idea that so many people are finally understanding how I feel and are supporting him for his greatness, is a proud moment for such a big fan like me. But it wasn’t always this way. Back in 2002 when he decided to start a solo career, I remember being heartbroken yet completely thrilled. I was excited to see what he would do. And it began the road to something special. (You know I’m still holding onto my *NSYNC though, that fangirl life ain’t going NOWHERE! #reunion #itllhappen #Icanfeelit)

People ragged on Justin often and his first mega performance was butchered in the tabloids, due to his untimely sickness. You guys remember this one right?

And yet here he is two decades in the game and he’s a mega star. A pop music legend. He’s compared often to the talent and the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) Mr. Michael Jackson, and that my friends is how you know you’ve made it. Justin Timberlake you are a creative genius who continues to prove your brilliance every time you take on a new project. Whether it’s creating an album, a film, or hosting SNL, you give it your all, and we thank you for doing so. We thank you for sharing your talent and your creativity with the world. And we thank you even more for making us laugh along the way. Always innovate, and we will always be here to watch you succeed like the boss you are. I think you have an incredible road ahead of you, and I think the best is still yet to come. I mean obviously…you haven’t met me yet. 😉 In the words of Michael Jackson when he received a prestigious award honoring his greatness; “You ain’t seen nothing yet.” I think it’s safe to say this holds true for Justin Timberlake too.

Confirmation that Justin Timberlake is gonna be a DAD!

**First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage.**

So I told you guys I would touch upon this once there was actual concrete proof. Now I know there’s been photos of a very pregnant Jessica Biel out and about, so we all knew. But I wanted to hear it from Justin himself. We all know the Timberlakes are very private people, when it comes to their relationship. We barely see them together often, and when we do it’s adorable but subtle. Well except for those few times Justin mounted his wife for the basketball kiss cam. haha. Any how, we saw how private they’ve been, from when they started dating, to when they broke up to when they got engaged and married, to now that Jessica’s expecting. It’s not that they don’t share with us fans, but they do it on their own terms and it’s usually weeks and weeks after the rumors started. That’s why I’ve learned to just wait for their word, over choosing to believe the media. I can’t even count how many times Justin’s been reported cheating or they’ve been reportedly “splitting up” it’s just like ok enough get the story straight, don’t just make ~~shit~~ up. Ah gossip mags. Justin and Jessica are the classy cool “late for the party, make an entrance” type of people. 😉

But in all honesty as I get older I realize how much privacy is valued. Some things are sacred and that’s that. I think having this attitude will only help their marriage last. I mean it’s Hollywood, and marriages end every day. So I think they are playing this smart and doing what is best for their family. Now I need to address my Jessica jealousy. haha. Yes I wasn’t completely sold on the idea of her and Justin. But then again, I love him and I’d rather him just not be with any girl, except me. How’s that for rational? haha. No no no but let’s be serious, fangirls think like this, it’s just how it is. It’s crazy and weird and kinda creepy but we all do it, I’m lookin’ at you, yea you! But there’s always room for improvement in life, as we grow older, we grow out of it. And I have. I will always fangirl for Justin,

but now I get to fangirl over him being a dad! I mean there’s something so amazing about this. Jessica seems really sweet and wholesome, she seems like she’s very in love with him, which we fangirls can only wish for. If he’s gonna leave us, it better be for someone who gets it, who gets what a guy he is! haha. Anyway I guess what I’m trying to say is I think I always pictured Justin with ~~[BRITNEY SPEARS]~~ someone like Cameron Diaz or Mila Kunis, that obvious goof ball type, but I think Jessica balances Justin out. And they make a beautiful couple. She is stunning. And she was Mary Camden on 7th Heaven so there’s that. Even though Lucy Camden was more my girl, I think my obsession with Biel’s movie Summer Catch made up for that. Freddie Prince Jr. you stud you. 😉

Mr. Timberlake celebrated his 34th birthday January 31st. (Happy Happy Birthday J.T. Don’t worry I tweeted him and showcased it all over my social media accounts, I’m a bad ass fangirl like that.) And as his thank you to everyone he posted THIS beautiful gem!

She looks amazing, she really does. And I’m so glad to see that she’s keeping her look comfy. I just think pregnant women should be comfortable, they are walking to two. No need to be wearing tight clothes and high heels. Jess keeps it real in sweats and flats most of the time.

So who do you think the baby will look more like, Justin or Jessica? And what do you think it is, a boy or girl? Either way the baby is going to be beautiful and have one hell of a great life. And is bound to be talented too! Best of Luck to the growing Timberlake Family. I cannot wait to see Justin pushing around a carriage! Our boy is growing up!

Jessica is said to be due in late March/ early April. I am sure when she has the baby it will be very private, and won’t be a while till we see pictures or know any details. Fingers crossed that we won’t have to wait too long. I’m really excited to see what it is! And what they name it! Ahhhhh!!!! So exciting! Happy and Healthy Blessings to Jessica & Justin. Congratulations! Oh and if you’re looking for baby girl names, Michelle is a really good one, I can vouche for it, but only if it has TWO L’s. 😉

So when I finally had the chance to sit down after all the holiday craziness and catch my breath, it occurred to me…that michelleleighwrites is turning 2!!!!!!!!!! So last year I said Happy Birthday, but WordPress calls it an anniversary so hmmm…. I don’t know what to call it? What do you think makes most sense? Anyhow, today TWO years ago I started this blog and it’s at a slow but steady growth and I am so proud and so humbled and so happy that I have been able to keep this commitment to myself and my craft. So last year you guys got the first vlog on this very special day and this year I wanted to do one for you guys again, but I just didn’t get a chance to. A Message To Justin Timberlake

*** I posted this little tid bit on my instagram yesterday to honor Justin Timberlake on his incredible tour and I thought I’d share because it gave me an idea for a blog post.***

For the past 2 years I have gotten the chance to fall back in love with an artist who I have always admired. Ever since his video explaining he was ready to release new music to the release of suit & tie to the release of both albums to the tour I have been on this non stop wild ride. Over the 2013-2014 period I was blessed to have been in the audience for three of his shows and they were all phenomenal. Justin Timberlake you are a true legend in the making, there’s a reason why they call you the next Michael Jackson. Best of luck as you close out your 2 year tour with these last 2 shows. Vegas is lucky to have you. It’s been an amazing time making fun memories with this album…and I cannot wait to see what you have in store for us in the future. But not before you take some much needed time off! Pros need rest too. P.S. Congrats to you and @jessicabiel … I hear you’re gonna be a daddy 🙂 @justintimberlake

Over the past 2 years Justin Timberlake has been touring for an album or rather two volumes that brought us hit songs suit & tie, mirrors, tunnel vision, take back the night, tko and not a bad thing, along with videos. To the many magazine covers, tv appearances and awards shows we finally got to see him nominated for his own music yet again and see him grace the stage for performances and acceptance speeches, to a 2 minute mini *NSYNC reunion. It’s been amazing to see Justin Timberlake make his return to music. That last one pretty much sums up this obsession and tops this post off perfectly. I bet you were reading this thinking “man this girl is obsessed,” well I already know that and I am fine with it, I have accepted it so ha! No shame here my friends, no shame. I think I called it when I posted my “Year of Justin Timberlake” piece….but it was more like 2 years 😉 So hats off Mr. Timberlake and the TN kids, thank you for the music, and for the memories, we love you!….now go get some rest…you’re gonna need it! Daddy duty will be calling your name soon enough 😉 (I know I know he hasn’t confirmed…but let’s be honest here people. More on that when he does actually confirm!)

Shout out to a man who knows what hard work means! 2 years touring the world, giving fans a true experience, I can safely say I myself even witnessed history in the making. Only having to cancel/reschedule at most a handful of shows due to illness, he kept it going night after night. He’s shutting down Vegas tonight for the last show of The 2020 Experience world tour. I was at opening night for this tour and I can’t believe he’s been back 2 years already! Go out big tonight JT…and then go soak in some Epsom salt hahaha (just try not to wait another 7 years for the next one, huh?)
