Aqua- Mermaid Queen

The 35th Annual Mermaid Parade was hosted this past

Saturday, on June 17th in Coney Island.

This was my third year attending and I dressed up a bit so I thought I’d share my look with you.

This year I went with a Aquamarine/Teal/Blue theme. All pieces were just to reflect oceanic colors. I added some shell accessories-a bracelet and a necklace. The sweater I’m wearing just¬†seemed perfect because it was this net type material, like you see in the ocean when fish life get caught up¬†in random netting and seaweed.¬†I randomly found this sea shell bra in dollar tree a few days before and I just thought why the hell not. I was a little reserved wearing it at first and I definitely got some looks on the train going there, but I just owned it. It’s not every day¬†you get to dress like one of the sea’s most beautiful mystical creatures. Life is too short to stay in a box.

I call her- Aqua– The Mermaid Queen ūüėČ

Me, my mom, and my aunt! When we left it was pouring and we thought to ourselves are we crazy… but we kept going and by the time we got there, it was clearing up. There was a slight overcast, and a mini drizzle, but it wasn’t bad at all. In fact I preferred it because the crowd wasn’t as big and the weather wasn’t disgustingly hot. We got to enjoy and it ended up getting nicer and we had a great day!

While I was there I got to check another item off my summer bucket list- to visit the Coney Art Walls.

Had to rock my mint green vans, cuz…Rain.

And last but not least the food…I indulged and I have no shame. Because it’s not often I get to hangout on the board walk and eat that type of food.¬† It just screams summer! So I had my usual¬†Coney¬†Island¬†staples – a corndog and a shish-ka-bob. And then I’ve been dying to try fried chicken and waffles. If you know me- you know-¬†I LOVE Chicken…any kind of chicken, and I LOVE waffles. So there was a food truck there and…um….it’s all that I imagined it would be.

Sorry I know that corn dog looks kinda gross, but it was delicious! Haha #SorryNotSorry

You can read my more in-depth experience from¬†THE BLOG¬†I posted when I attended 2 years ago. I describe in detail how I put together my outfit. A lot of the things I did this year were the same. I did the scrunchy hairstyle with a¬†blue extension, blue hair chalk and a whole lot of product. I also used a similar makeup technique, where I basically just used stick on jewels, and blues to highlight my face and make it mermaid-y plus glitter, on glitter, on glitter. I even used my starfish DIY hair clip again too! This year I liked my outfit a little better, but the feelings of hope, creativity, and acceptance that radiant¬†from the parade¬†are still in my heart. It’s such a weird experience, but I think it’s pretty cool.

Next year I hope to gather more of a crew to go, and I think I may have to really plan a badass mermaid outfit. I’m going to make everyone dress up right along with me! It’s so much more fun, when you join in on¬†the weirdness. ¬†ūüėÄ

Fall 2015 Bucket List

Fall is here. It is here, it is HERE! Yesterday marked the¬†first day of¬†fall or Autumn as my calendar so eloquently states.¬†I love fall so much so here are just a few things I’m hoping to accomplish this year during this lovely time of oranges and browns, Halloween candy,¬†and pumpkin spice¬†everythang¬†in yo face every 5 seconds. So I thought I’d share¬†my list¬†with you, and this way it’s in print and it’ll give me incentive to really strive to complete it. ūüėČ

My Fall 2015 Bucket List (in no particular order)

  1. Go Apple Picking– this is something I haven’t done in YEARS. And it’s something that seasonally is¬†over pretty quickly. So I am going to make an extra effort this year to see if we can get this done.

2. Bake pies– I usually do this around Thanksgiving time. But it may be fun to bake a pumpkin pie for Halloween! I’ve actually never made a pumpkin pie before, so I’m excited to give it a try. I love pie, because it just reminds me of country life and fall breezes and just all around¬†cozy-ness.

3. Drink them pumpkin dranks– sorry but I think at this point it’s just obligatory.

4. Go to a haunted house– this can probably tie into¬†a few things¬†later¬†on¬†in the list, which is going to¬†a pumpkin patch outing or a fright fest outing. Pumpkin Patches sometimes have a bunch of attractions included.¬†But I’m kind of a chicken when it comes to these things. I don’t know if I’ll have the guts to do this. We shall see.

5. Have a scary/Halloween movie marathon– Ok so I do love scary movies, they stay in the screen and don’t bother me so that I can handle. This¬†year it has¬†occurred to¬†me, that¬†I need to¬†watch Hocus Pocus, because¬†I don’t think I’ve ever sat through that whole movie,¬†and yes you can yell at me. But what can I¬†say¬†I’m more of a Halloweentown fan!

6. Plan a kickass Halloween costume– currently I’m hoping to be Pocahontas. Every year I come up with a million ideas and then I settle on something totally random and simple. And every year Pocahontas is a contender. She is my favorite Disney princess and I would love to play her for a night. So this year, I think I’m gonna try my best to pull that off. My runner up is a biker chick, because I can totally reuse my Daryl Dixon vest from last year. We shall see.

7. Make fun plans for Halloween– someone please THROW A PARTY! I am so sick of feeling like if I don’t have fun crazy plans my Halloween is less cool. Damn you social media. ūüėČ Truth be told I’m a total grandma. I hate going out late and braving the crazy city on a night like Halloween. The city is nuts on that night.¬†I prefer to attend house parties. It’s just so much simpler. You don’t have to worry about traveling in the cold, so you can dress up as whatever you want and not worry that it’s going to get covered by a jacket.¬†You don’t have to worry about paying for overpriced drinks or searching for a un-crowded place to eat at 2am because you’re starving. I just like to go have fun, have a drink or two, enjoy some good food, and good company. Take some fun pics and then come home at a¬†decent time, change into my pjs¬†and watch some Halloween movies with some left over¬†Halloween¬†candy. That to me, is a epic Halloween. Is that too much to ask?¬†And I know what you are going to say…if you want a Halloween party, throw one yourself. To be honest I would love to, but I’ve done it, and it is a lot of work, and it actually costs more money than you think. So I’m gonna give myself a pass this year and hold out hope that someone else will consider throwing one.

8. Go pumpkin picking– this is a big deal in my family, we usually get a big group together and¬†pick a fun patch to go to. There’s a bunch of kids and they all have a great time. Also Apple Cider donuts are involved and that is just good living in the making.

9. Decorate/Carve pumpkins– usually I carve my pumpkins but last year I decorated mine and made her a spunky¬†old lady named Juanita Cromwell. (yes¬†in relation to The Halloweentown Cromwells)¬†The year¬†before that I carved mine and¬†made her a badass chick¬†named Rhonda. This year I’m not quite sure what I will want to do. When I carve them, they don’t last too long,¬†and barely make it to Halloween, but when I don’t carve them they nearly¬†outlasted my Christmas decorations. So maybe I’ll be an over achiever and¬†do one of each. ūüėČ

10. Corn Maze*

11. Hayride*

(10 & 11) -these things usually go hand in hand with pumpkin picking, so we’ll see if we can knock these off the list too.

12. Fright Fest– I’m not sure this will actually happen because it cost money and it’s pretty far.¬†I went one year and I was pretty scared, they sense it and don’t leave you alone. I remember getting aggravated by the actors, because one guy was all dressed up and scary and he had a shovel, and he was shoveling at people’s feet. So when he kept doing it to me, I got so pissed and was like “um are you trying to trip me?” That in turn lessened my fear. Haha.

13. Experiment with Fun Fall Fashion [See: my last post]

14. Shoot a¬†Horror short and release it in time for Halloween– The script is written and hopefully *fingers crossed* I can pull this off. Because I think it’d be really fun!

15. Consume a good amount of Halloween Candy– Candy Corn is a must.

16. Have a bonfire and make s’mores– This is a little difficult to do in the city, but I’ll see if we can swing it.¬†If not,¬†I did visit some family in the country and we got to have a fire pit and make s’mores and roast some hotdogs. That seriously gives me life. #THEOC

17. Fall crafts with my goddaughter– I’m thinking maybe some leaf art, or some Apple stamps. You know when you cut an apple in half, paint it on the inside¬†and then stamp it onto a piece of paper. I think those will be fun, and she loves to paint! So I think she’ll enjoy those.

18. Decorate my house for Fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving– having the house decorated for the season is something that just sprinkles some joy around. And I love decorating, and getting into the spirit of things. It’s a reminder to stop and enjoy the time of year.

19. Hot Apple Cider– I usually just¬†buy¬†a bottle¬†of this¬†at whichever¬†pumpkin patch we end up going to. I buy it cold, which tastes good. But when I’m home at night, I’ll pop a cup of it in the microwave and it is even better hot!

20. Oktoberfest– I always hear about this, but I’ve never attended. Pretty sure it’s all about drinking beer and such, so it may not be my thing. But I would like to look into it.

21. Applefest– I’ve gone every year for the past 3 years I think. It’s seriously a great time. It’s basically like this big¬†town fair upstate and I have family up there so we go and look through town at all the venders. And then we spend time with family. It’s seriously one of my favorite things about fall. My staple purchases usually¬†include; my favorite wine, some apple butter and jams, some unique¬†piece of jewelry, a¬†freshly made Belgium waffle,¬†a fresh flower crown that I wear throughout the¬†town, and maybe some other bits and bops I come across. I’m hoping I can continue the tradition and make it there this year.

22. Make chicken and waffles– I recently went to visit some family and I remember my Aunt telling me about how she makes chicken and waffles for dinner sometimes. And I freaked out, because those are two of my favorite things. It never occurred to me to make them together. My brother bought me a waffle maker for my birthday in March, and I still haven’t used it. So I think it’s about time I bust that baby out.

23. Attend a super bowl party– I’m not a football fan, nor am I even a sports fan.¬†I mean I can sit and follow a¬†baseball game, but that’s about it. Football I¬†am lost on.¬†But I think super bowl parties are mainly about food, and sharing good company. So I am hoping to attend one this year. Also I do love to watch the half time show. I’m hearing it may be Bruno Mars this year again, or I’m hearing rumors that it may be Taylor Swift. And OMG yes. T-swift is my girl.

24. Fall TV show premieres– #THEWALKINGDEAD #TGIT TV is my favorite past time, and I can not wait for all my favorite shows to come back! [I’ll post my fall tv schedule soon, so you can see what I watch.]

25. Roast Pumpkin Seeds– I have never done this, but I hear that they taste really good, so I thought I’d give it a try.

26. Host some kind of fun low-key fall event for me and my friends– I love throwing parties, I love playing hostess. It’s a lot of work, but it’s nice to create a theme and have people over to share and enjoy good food, good conversation and good memories. As I get older I realize how hectic life can get, and how it gets harder and harder to keep up with people. So when I plan things with friends, it’s nice to catch up and spend time with them in a fun environment. I’m thinking of doing something maybe like a “pumpkin party” where everyone brings something pumpkin flavored and we watch a fun Halloween movie or something.

So there you have it my Fall 2015 Bucket List. Wish me luck!

P.S. What are you planning to do this fall…did I miss any fall activities?

Christmas 2014 Bucket List

I’m a list person. I make a to do list, practically every day. Granted that may be a little OCD esque, but I love the feeling of checking things off and getting shit done. Knowing you are accomplishing things is very therapeutic and eases your worries a bit. At least it does for me. So with that being said, I came up with a Thanksgiving to do list and it really helped me hone in and focus on what I wanted to do and what I needed to do. It’s an organization thing.hellodecember

Anyhow, for¬†the month of¬†December¬†I wanted to make a Christmas¬†bucket list. Every year I feel like there is always so many things I want to do and then before I know it we are a week away from the holiday and I am still rushing to shop for gifts, trying to finish decorating and it just flies by and I don’t even get to enjoy it. So time to get it together.

Visit the city lights

Go see all the Christmas lights in the neighborhood

Happy December!

My TV Nerd Dream Came True

So there are two things in life that I truly fan girl over. I fan girl over a lot of stuff but I’m talking full on next level fan girl shit. And that is for¬†Justin Timberlake/*NSYNC, and the TV show “Friends.” During late August an announcement was made that made my fan girl radar kick into high gear. Infilarakia-central-perk[1] honor of “Friends” celebrating the 20th anniversary of the day the pilot episode premiered and made fans fall in love with Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, and Ross, New York City would be host to a “Central Perk” Pop Up shop.¬† A replica of the gang’s daily coffee hangout. I NEARLY LOST MYSELF! I did. I have been saying how they needed to do something like this FOR YEARS. I remember reading awhile back that the only Central Perk that existed was somewhere¬†in London and well let’s face it being a New York girl, London isn’t really around the corner. So when I heard this news I was ecstatic. If you doubt my dedication to the show or my love of Central Perk…I say click HERE…and all will be understood. Yup that’s right July 2013, I hosted my very on Central Perk themed party….and it was a blast.

My friends and I had been planning to go for weeks. But things kept coming up and we kept having to put it off.¬†¬†The shop opened up September 17, 2014 and¬†closed October 18, 2013. ONLY A MONTH! A MONTH! The more I read about it, the more I knew I had to make time to get there. I am a huge TV nerd, and I love behind the scenes footage, I love props and getting to learn things about what goes on behind the camera of my favorite shows. Set secrets are my weakness. I love them! So when I heard we would be able to take a¬†picture on the famous orange couch, I was super stoked! I can’t even explain to you how much of a tv nerd dream that has been for me. And even hosting my own party to try and make it happen couldn’t¬†lessen the joy I felt when I actually got to do it! I sat where Jennifer Anniston sat!

¬†Here’s my journey…(in pictures)

Walking toward it...noticing the massive line we were in store for

Walking toward it…noticing the massive line we were in store for…[4 blocks long just to give you an idea]

Finally waiting in line!

Finally waiting in line!

My friend and I got there around 2 in the afternoon we went on Columbus day. And I don’t think any other day would have made a difference….there was going to be a line either way and I have to say we were really lucky with the weather. It wasn’t too cold, not hot, and the rain held up until we were all said and done and on our way home…then we got soaked sans my brilliant idea not to bring along¬†an¬†umbrella. Throughout our wait we got a few time updates as we moved along the line. From a wait of nearly 4 hours from when we got on line, we finally made it to the front of the shop at around 5. 10350506_10204538798131139_1073587806796967014_n[2] 10703663_10205227888122746_1550153432122752342_n[1] 10696251_10204538795651077_937552607732796906_n[1] What I found so interesting¬†was how considerate the host at the door was. She briefed us on how the shop worked and where we had to go for our picture with the couch and where the gift shop line was and urged us to take pictures. She also shooed away passing people who were stopping and taking pictures through the door, stating that all of us waiting online deserve to take as many pictures as we want, that people just walking by do not just get to waltz in and steal photos. I thought that was really cool of her. 3 & 1/2 hours later and we are in! We are greeted by Pat the Dog and an array of other Friends memorabilia and specific character wardrobe. 6263_10205227862802113_4935844683677028435_n[2]

Next we move on to a glass case showcasing props used in many different episodes, all enveloped in episode stills of the show and cast photos surrounding us.

Next we move onto the coffee station…where we not only got our choice of FREE coffee but also got blessed with some very signature set props

The worker’s shirts said “How you brewin’?” haha genius!

DSCF4095 DSCF4096

After we got our free coffees we explored at bit more¬†before waiting on the line to take our picture on¬†THE famous¬†orange couch. How cool are those signed scripts, did you know the show was almost called “Six of One” or¬†“Friends Like Us.”

10671402_10204538817611626_6007604147307247028_n[1] 10670177_10204538812451497_7670436084499965316_n[1] 10710814_10204538814691553_7758564405456959110_n[1] 10712743_10205227882202598_5021549395261534578_n[1] DSCF4102 DSCF4111

They had a big flat screen playing friends clips and there was a definite 90’s soundtrack playing over¬† the sound system…pretty sure I remember singing along to “I believe I can fly.” On the wall behind us were some sketches of the signature¬†sets.¬†Also notice the umbrella holder from the show¬†was there as¬†well!

***Heading to the COUCH!***

DSCF4113 DSCF4103 DSCF4112 DSCF4122 10698685_10205227884282650_1137796521991583066_n[1]

They had someone taking pictures for¬†you…but you were allowed to have someone take a picture for you using one other¬†personal device.

central perk free photo

Then you were given a card with a website and photo code to obtain your FREE picture.

Sitting on that couch was surreal, I did my best to take it all in. I have to admit though I was a bit skeptical of whether they were telling the truth that the couch was the real couch used on the show. But once I saw it in person and saw how dingy and dirty and flat the cushions were, I knew it was the real deal! haha. And I was cool with it! The only thing missing were our big coffee mugs; they made us put our coffee down when sitting on the couch #nospillzone. But other than that it was super awesome to live out a tv nerd fantasy of mine. I even sat in the green chair on the side [I hope that was the real chair too] and had a little fan girl moment for myself just before heading to the gift shop area.

The gift shop area was right at the center and across from the coffee station. When we got to it, there wasn’t much left. I really wanted a mug or a¬†bracelet but they were sold out of the mugs and they had a few bracelets left but they wanted like $40 for one bracelet. So I settled on a central Perk frame to put my picture in, a magnet and a bunch of buttons.

You couldn’t use cash; only debit or credit cards, which was kind of annoying but I guess with all the craziness they didn’t want to be responsible for managing money too. They had like an iPad type credit card swiper.¬†But thankfully I had read up beforehand and knew to have the money on my card and also they give you an option of being sent a receipt through email or text. Which is good.

After the gift shop, I remember turning to my friend and asking where the gold frame around the peephole was…that I remembered reading it was supposed to be there and that I hadn’t come across it and low and behold it was cleverly discussed right near the gift shop exit.

20141013_174429 20141013_174440

It was encased in a peephole esque tv box playing a few Friends clips and it was see through so when you looked close you saw the frame but from the side you can see clearly. This was a replica of the original.

All in all it was an amazing experience. The 3 and a half hours weren’t as bad as I thought and once we got the first block down we moved quicker to the front. The only downside was I had to pee! We were so close that I thought I’d make it, but when we hit the block of the entrance they said we’d have to wait about another half hour (which didn’t end up being true) but¬†I ran into the deli/caf√© next door to use their rest room anyway. I wasn’t about to take any chances of having to rush through my¬†once in a life time chance¬†of seeing all of this amazing tv stuff.¬†¬†When I came back I was trying to get back on my place in line and I was stopped by a security guy. I was like “I just went to the bathroom. I’ve been here the whole time.” [Mind you this guy saw my face like 10 times throughout the waiting period.] My friend was screaming over saying “she’s with me, she’s with me” and he almost didn’t let me in. I just stopped talking and looked at him with a face. Then all the girls that were waiting behind us in line that whole time were screaming out¬†“she was here, she was here, let her in.” And he was like “Oh ok, they say you were here…I’m sorry, if you weren’t I wouldn’t be able to let you in, but they say you were, so go ahead.” And I was let in. I was like yea I was getting in here no matter what….you would have seen me flip out, there would have been tears…it would have been a scene.

But never the less I went, I saw, I conquered and I actually did manage to put my camera down here and there and actually take it all in. What a cool experience and worth the wait!

Central_Perk CentralPerk Central-perk

I think Eight O’clock coffee did a damn good job. The staff was nice, the atmosphere was that of a coffee shop, and looked like Central Perk! Despite the crowds of people and the amount of things to look at, everything moved rather smoothly and it was a cozy comforting experience. The different stations made it all easier and organized and I never felt pressed for time or rushed. It was so cool to see all the set pieces and stage props and everything. I’m such a huge Friends fan, it is my absolute favorite show, and this was such an amazing thing to experience and it was free! My favorite thing! haha.¬†Take a picture sitting on the orange couch from Friends…check. #bucketlist It did so well, they really should¬†open up¬†a real coffee shop here in NYC for good!

And for my fellow Friends fans who do not own the box set…BIG NEWS…

It’s coming to Netflix January 1, 2015!

Could you BE any more excited???
