Happy 60th Barbie!

Yesterday on Saturday, March 9th, Barbie celebrated her 60th Birthday/Anniversary. I am a total Barbie fan. In fact I’ve done some posts about Barbie in the past that will give you a better idea of how I feel about our girl Barbs. 😉

Barbie Evolves…Mattel bringing its A game [2016]

In order to celebrate I thought I’d share a few pics of me playing with Barbies as a kid/pre-teen and share with you some of my favorite Barbies that were released while I was growing up. Yes, I played with Barbie until I was like 11 or so. #NoShame I still get to play every now and again, with my little cousins or my god daughter. It brings me back and I love it! 😉

Sit in Style….Guys, remember bubble furniture?

These are just some I remember having as a kid. I’m sure there are tons of others that I loved.

I buy Barbies for my god daughter who is now old enough to play with them. And I even buy them for my niece too, even though she’s still a little bit too young. I just want them  to know the journey Barbie has taken and how far she’s come. Yes I’ve bought them some curvy dolls. In fact, I never got to purchase one for my collection, so as I picked up one for my niece, I figured why the hell not? I should own a curvy Barbie. The little girl in me, still supports her love of Barbie dolls. I chose this curvy Fashionista, because she reminded me of myself a bit. She has hips and thighs! And her outfit was funky and floral like the hippie side of me.

Oh and FYI Barbie has a VLOG channel on YouTube and it is AMAZING!  I’m going to be 28 later this month and I can’t believe how her words can hit home even at my age. It’s really great to see her speaking on important issues young girls and women still face today. I loved the last two vlogs she posted, such amazing positive messages for the youth of the world to absorb. Barbie teaches girls that they can do anything and to stick up for themselves. In this world we need positive role models for our girls! Barbie wasn’t always considered a good/smart/healthy role model. Even some youth today, consider her “stupid.” But I loved her, and with all the positive changes being made today to her brand, I love her even more. I can only hope that I will one day, have my own daughter and pass down my Barbie collection to her and teach her all that Barbie has taught me.

And just for some fun, I thought I’d share their Birthday Barbie video with you too!

Bratz Challenge- Yasmin Inspired Look

18-2001-Bratz-Dolls-Flickr-A-Thousand-Splendid-Dolls[1]

The Original 4 Bratz Dolls- [2001] Jade, Sasha, Chloe, and Yasmin

PLAY as you read! Bratz Theme Song

There has been this trend on YouTube, where people are transforming themselves into a Bratz doll, through the wonders of makeup. I grew up playing with them. Granted they came out when I was around 10, so I was starting to phase out of the doll playing phase. But I definitely loved them, and played with Barbies and Bratz, and even My Scene and Diva Starz, when I was older than most who were still into dolls. However, dolls held such a special place in my heart. It was kind of my first introduction to storytelling.

“Bratz is an American product line of fashion dolls and merchandise manufactured by MGA Entertainment and created by Carter Bryant. Four original 10-inch dolls were released in 2001—Yasmin, Cloe, Jade, and Sasha. They featured almond-shaped eyes adorned with eyeshadow, and lush, glossy lips.”- Via Wikipedia

Yasmin was my favorite, so I decided to try and transform into the original Yasmin doll look.

Here’s how the look turned out…

The Comparison

Quick Disclaimer: Compared to the many Bratz Challenges out there, this is a very small attempt. Some may even call it a fail. I call it a more Wearable Bratz Inspired Look.  I am not a huge makeup girl, sure I love to play with makeup and pick up techniques and get dressed up. But I don’t really buy fancy brands and the quality of my makeup isn’t the best. So the slick painted crease lines and perfect differentiations of color in the eye shadow kind of didn’t go over too well here. At some point even though I tried to do so, the colors all blended together. Well that and the images don’t completely show all the color variations either.

Breaking Down the Look:

MGA-Bratz-Yasmin-First-Edition-Bratz-Doll-with[1] (2)

Foundations/Powder/Bronzer/Blush/Highlighter– create as much of a Flawless finish as possible. The Highlight looks mostly focused on the cheek tones, the tip of the nose, the center of the lips and the cupid’s bow.

Sculpted Brows– brush them in place and fill them in.

Lavender-White (on the outer eyelid)/Lavender-Purple (on the browbone)/Mauve-Pink (inner corner and the crease) eyeshadow colors

Black eyeliner on the top and bottom water lines and Yasmin has two wings going on, one of the top and one on the bottom.

Mascara on the top lashes, it appears she doesn’t really have top lashes, LOL!

Blue eyeliner of the inner corners of the eye, and the upper outer corner.

Beauty Mark by the cheek/under the eye ( I just used a brown eye pencil to create one, Lol) [OPTIONAL Step of course.]

Big Full Lips– you can over draw them or stick to your actual shape, whatever vibe you desire. But as for the colors, her lips is basically lined in a darker wine/burgundy and then filled in with a pink/mauve.

The outfit/Hair– I just stuck with similar colors, a top in a blue shade, and a brown bandana/handkerchief head piece. I also added a little braid like she has just for fun.

I feel like I just kind of threw this together on a whim, and thought it’d be a fun post. I definitely think had I had more time to plan and create an outfit and use better makeup, I could have done a little better. Even so, it was fun to play around with for a bit. And even though I may not look like exactly like my Bratz girl- Yasmin, I did kind of like how the inspired look came out. Although this was my first time trying out liquid eyeliner and it was quite terrifying. My wings are so sad. LOL!

So…did you love Bratz as a kid? Who was your favorite?

#BLOGTOBER Day 13- A Fall Memory

Growing up, I was a really big Barbie fan. I loved buying them and playing with them. I loved picking out their outfits and brushing their hair. I had tons of them! And every Halloween or Holiday they would release a new seasonal Barbie. I wasn’t one much for collectibles, because I actually liked to play with my dolls.

I remember when I was younger I used to take trips with my Aunt and my Mom, upstate to visit my cousin in college.

It was a long drive so my Mom let me skip school on a Friday and we drove up early and shopped with my cousin for stuff she needed. We just spent the whole day with her.

Those were always such fun days.

But this one time, I remember, while we were shopping, I saw a Halloween Barbie, that I really wanted.

My parents never raised us to expect that we’d get everything we wanted or everything we asked for. But my mom made an exception and, ended up letting me get the Barbie. I was so excited that I opened it up right away and played with her the whole car ride home. It was always the best feeling, opening a new Barbie.

Til this day I remember what the doll looked like and because of the internet…I can show you just exactly which one it was.

I remember thinking she was dressed so cool. I loved her sparkly, glitter dress and she had on these cool black ankle boots. Her lipstick was a nice orange, to match her orange studs. And how cool is that flame detailing at the bottom of the dress. She also came with a trick or treat bag. 😉 She was just super fun. I really hope my niece is a Barbie fan when she gets a big older!  I have all of mine packed away, I need someone to share them with.

There was just something about playing with Barbies. It was like my own early form of story telling. I could name them, give them personalities, create plots, dress them according to their style. It was a blast, and these dolls could be anything they wanted to be. If you ask me, Barbies are an incredible tool for a child’s imagination. It certainly was for mine.

Signed,

Barbie Girl 😉

P.S. Just in case you didn’t know, Barbie has a YouTube Channel…

BLOGMAS -Day 9- A Christmas Morning Memory

lights blogmas edit

Growing up, my brother and I lived for Christmas morning. We were always up bright and early, jumping on our parents bed to wake up so that we can start opening our presents.

My Brother & I visiting Santa in the 90’s 🙂

However it’s important to note, that even though we loved getting presents, we also grew up going to church regularly, we were raised to know the true meaning of Christmas.

Referring back to Christmas morning when I was younger, there is one story that I will never forget.

I awoke early in the morning and snuck a peek at the pile of gifts that laid beneath the tree. There were so many that they spread throughout the floor. And standing in the middle of the room was a Toy Story cardboard toy display. The kind they used to have in Burger King and McDonald’s that showcased whatever toys were featured in the happy meal. I remember being obsessed with collecting those things!

I remember seeing this and rushing into my room, and pulling my brother awake to see. Drowsy he followed and I still remember his face of shock.

When our parents woke up, we finally got the back story of how this thing could possibly end up in our living room.

My dad asked if he could buy the whole display and well…they let him. So he did.

I remember playing with my Little Bo Peep like crazy. And it was the coolest gift ever!

Do you have any special Christmas moments you still remember from your childhood?

The letter that went unsent

As promised more embarrassing acts of my teenage self.

Long story short, this is me trying to pull a “My Super Sweet 16” circa MTV style and get a celebrity appearance at my 16th birthday party. (um FYI this is from 8 years ago and now I feel ancient.)

In this letter, I really crack myself up, who did I think I was….haha.

This is back when fanmail was a thing, before the days of twitter.

Dear Bethany Joy Lenz-Galeotti,

(now currently back to Lenz)Bethany-Joy-bethany-joy-galeotti-18441547-387-602

First of all let me start off by saying hi, I’m Michelle DeSantos and I love One Tree Hill. In fact it’s my all-time favorite show. I love your character Haley, in fact my friends and I call each other oth names and I’m Haley because I’m so similar to her. I mean I can’t sing quite so amazingly as you and I’m not a married 16 year old but we have a lot of the same qualities. Anyway I love the whole Haley and Nathan relationship, it’s so sweet and you guys are so good together. I love James he’s an amazing actor and I think he’s really grown from season 1 as did you. However as far as all the women on the show you are my favorite, I just admire you so much. You are truly my idol. You are beautiful, smart, and amazingly talented. The main reason I’m writing however is because, my sixteenth birthday is coming up in March, the 26th actually. I was just wondering if you could possibly come and perform a song or two. I understand if you can’t, I mean I know I’m asking a lot and I know that you’re a busy woman but it’s just that it killed me to miss the oth tour and if you came it would be the ultimate icing on, my cake. It would be an honor to have you share in my birthday experience with me. Also if any of your oth co-stars can attend that would be so COOL! Pass it on, especially James I LOVE HIM!!!!

Thank you for your time,

God bless,

Love,

Michelle DeSantos ❤

P.S. the actual invitation with all the details is attached.

(haha I was so fancy!) I really laid the compliments on thick, huh? #flatterywillgetyoueverywhere 😉
